We boarded our morning Lufthansa LH1661 flight, setting course for Munich. A 5 hours layover in Munich had us transit through one of Europe's most efficient and bustling airports. Taking to the skies again on Lufthansa LH410 flight, we soared across the Atlantic, with the anticipation of New York growing with every passing nautical mile. Crossing time zones and merging horizons, we touched down at JFK at 3.30 pm, the iconic skyline of the Big Apple greeting us in the distance. A private transfer awaited, whisking us through the iconic sights of New York – from the dynamic boroughs to the architectural marvels that have adorned countless movie scenes and postcards. The city's energy was immediately evident, with its streets alive with a rhythm and pulse uniquely its own. However, if there's one experience that truly captures the essence of New York, it's viewing it from a height. As evening enveloped the city, we made our way to the Top of the Rock . By night, this vantage point transforms into an electrifying spectacle. The city lights, spread out in a sprawling dance of luminescence, brought skyscrapers to life, each telling tales of ambition, dreams, and relentless pursuit. After soaking in the city's brilliance from above, our day concluded at the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Downtown. A comforting abode in the heart of the city's ceaseless bustle, it promised rest and relaxation in preparation for the adventures that lay ahead. 18th April 2023 - Day 2: A Dive into the Heart of the Big Apple Our second day in the city that never sleeps was a deep immersion into its pulsating heart. New York is a city of stories, each corner and brick holding whispers of the past while embracing the promise of the future. Kicking off our day, we boarded a ferry from Battery Park. The waters of the Hudson River lapped against the boat as the city's skyline receded, replaced by the iconic silhouette of the Statue of Liberty. As we drew closer, the symbolic Lady Liberty stood tall, her torch shining as a beacon of hope and freedom. The statue, gifted by France to the United States, remains a timeless symbol of liberty, democracy, and the enduring bond between nations. A short ferry ride later, we found ourselves on Ellis Island , stepping into the National Museum of Immigration . This island, once the nation's busiest immigrant inspection station, has heard countless tales of hope, despair, longing, and dreams. The museum's exhibits give voice to the millions who came seeking a new life on American shores. Their stories, immortalized in photos, letters, and artifacts, offer a deeply moving account of America's immigrant heritage. Returning to the mainland, our walk took us to the heart of global finance – Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange . This bustling street, with its iconic charging bull, stands as a testament to the city's financial might and influence. The ebb and flow of traders, investors, and tourists lend Wall Street a unique vitality. In stark contrast, a few blocks away, the 9/11 Memorial offers a space for reflection. Twin reflecting pools, set in the footprints of the former Twin Towers, honor the lives lost during that fateful day in September. The rustling leaves and the murmur of water serve as a poignant reminder of resilience and remembrance. Our spirits uplifted, Central Park beckoned. An oasis in the midst of urban chaos, the park's vast expanse offers a retreat into nature. The winding pathways, bustling with joggers, artists, and families, brought to life the city's vivacity. The neon glow of Times Square followed, its giant billboards and theaters radiating an irresistible allure. As daylight faded, Grand Central Terminal offered a glimpse into the city's architectural grandeur. The constellation-laden ceiling and the soft echoes of hurried footsteps created an atmosphere of timelessness. A stroll through the Rockefeller Plaza , with its famed art deco buildings, led us to the Empire Fulton Ferry in Dumbo . This scenic park, with its panoramic views of Manhattan and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, painted a breathtaking tableau as day transitioned to night. Retiring to the hotel, we reflected on a day rich in history, culture, and the indomitable spirit of New York. From immigrant tales to financial powerhouses, the city had unraveled its multifaceted narrative, leaving us eager for the chapters that lay ahead. 19th April 2023 - Railroads, Revolution, and the Rhythms of Boston The allure of the East Coast lies in its blend of modernity and deep-rooted history, and today’s adventure was a vivid testament to that. Transitioning from the bustling streets of New York to the historically-rich avenues of Boston provided a refreshing contrast, offering us new insights and perspectives. Our day began at New York Penn Station. As we awaited our 9:50 am train, the station's vibrancy was evident. Travelers hurried along, coffee in hand, each with their own narrative to tell. Once aboard, the train whisked us northward. With every mile, the urban sprawl of New York gave way to picturesque landscapes. The transition from metropolis to the verdant beauty outside our window was captivating. A mere 4 hours and 20 minutes later, the storied city of Boston greeted us as we disembarked at South Station. Steeped in American Revolution history, Boston has long been a focal point of culture, academia, and maritime tales. No visit to Boston would be complete without a walk in the Public Garden and Boston Common . The country’s oldest public park, Boston Common has been the backdrop to numerous historical events since its inception in 1634. Meanwhile, the adjacent Public Garden, with its enchanting Swan Boats and lush flora, added a touch of tranquility to our day. Our exploration led us to the shores where the Boston Tea Party redefined the course of American history. Standing on the very ground where, in 1773, American colonists protested against British taxation, the weight of history was profound. The harbor echoed with tales of defiance and the spirit of revolution. The Boston Waterfront , with its blend of historic wharves and modern developments, was our next stop. The rhythmic sound of the waves against the docks, the clinking of masts, and the soft chatter of locals and tourists alike painted a vivid maritime picture. The harbor, once the lifeblood of the city's trade and commerce, now stands as a reminder of Boston's resilient spirit and evolution. Dinner at Mastro's Ocean Club Our day culminated at the Seaport Hotel Boston. Overlooking the harbor, this abode offered a comforting retreat after a day rich in discovery. As the lights of the city began to twinkle, reflecting on the waters, we looked forward to unraveling more of Boston’s tapestries and tales. 20th April 2023 - An Ode to Dreams and Legacy Our day unfurled in the academic hub of Cambridge, a vibrant community pulsating with youthful energy and revered traditions. Cambridge, being home to the illustrious Harvard University , held a special allure for us. Stepping into the famed Harvard University campus was akin to walking through the annals of time. Each brick, each corner seemed to whisper tales of groundbreaking discoveries and pioneering thoughts. The allure of the campus was so profound that it felt like each footstep resonated with the countless ambitions that had tread these grounds before. The iconic Harvard Statue , standing resolutely amidst a sea of students and tourists, offered an interesting tale. Often dubbed the "Statue of Three Lies," its myths have become as entrenched in Harvard folklore as the very figures it celebrates. Our academic pilgrimage continued, leading us to the revered halls of the Harvard Law School, Business School, and Medical School . Each faculty, a titan in its own right, echoed the university's unwavering commitment to shaping global leaders and innovators. Leaving the confines of academia, we journeyed into the heart of Boston and its architectural wonders. The Boston Public Library , a citadel of knowledge, attracted us with its vast collection and intricate designs. It was an embodiment of the city’s commitment to preserving knowledge and promoting intellectual growth. As the day progressed, the historic district of Beacon Hill beckoned. The cobblestone streets and timeless architecture painted a picture of old-world elegance. Amidst this backdrop, the Massachusetts State House, with its glistening golden dome, stood as a testament to the enduring spirit of democracy. A contemporary contrast to this was the Boston City Hall , its unique design representing the city's blend of tradition and modernity. Our footsteps then led us to the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park . This verdant escape by the harbor was the perfect place to ponder upon the day's experiences. A stone's throw away, Rowes Wharf provided a maritime conclusion to our explorations, offering a moment of reflection by the water's edge. Midnight found us back at the Seaport Hotel Boston, recollecting the day's adventures. The fusion of academic excellence and historic grandeur that Boston offered was profoundly inspiring. And as we lay down, a shared aspiration crystallized - a dream to someday walk the halls of Harvard College not as visitors, but as students, basking in the legacy of this magnificent institution. Truly, Boston had not just won our hearts, but also kindled our dreams. 21st April 2023 - Day 5: From Boston's Red Bricks to Philadelphia's Historic Streets As we waved goodbye to Boston's academic aura, anticipation filled the air. The day was set to unfold in Philadelphia, a city drenched in historical significance and boundless vitality. Hopping into a taxi, the airport soon loomed into view, marking the start of our next adventure. Boarding Delta flight DL5619, the skies opened their embrace as we soared towards our next destination. The flight was punctuated with a sense of excitement and a dash of impatience, as the thought of exploring the City of Brotherly Love was hard to resist. Touching down in Philadelphia at 4 pm, the city's pulse was immediately evident. Opting for a train transfer, the city's landscapes unfurled like pages from a history book, each stop narrating tales of old. The evening was set to begin at Logan Square , a verdant oasis that signaled the city's blend of urban splendor and natural grace. The swaying trees and inviting benches were a testimony to the city's commitment to providing respites amid its bustling avenues. A hop, skip, and a jump away, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway stretched before us. Lined with flags and flanked by important landmarks, it felt like a grand aisle leading to the city's heart. Every turn revealed architectural marvels and whispered tales of the city's storied past. JFK Plaza , often referred to as 'Love Park,' greeted us with its iconic 'LOVE' sculpture. A symbol of the city's warm spirit, the park echoed with laughter, music, and the soft murmur of conversations. But the crowning jewel of our explorations was the Philadelphia City Hall. Towering above the cityscape, its intricate masonry and grandeur were awe-inspiring. The very heart of the city, it was a living testament to Philadelphia's rich history and its undying spirit of democracy. The day drew to a close at The Windsor Suites Philadelphia, our accomodation. 22nd April 2023 - Historical Hues and City Views - From Philadelphia to Washington DC Starting our day in Philadelphia, we paid our respects to the foundations of American democracy at Independence Hall (you need reservation in advance). Every brick and beam in this building resonates with tales from the past. It was in this hallowed hall that the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution came to life, sculpting the path of a nascent nation. Walking through the hall, one could almost hear the echoes of impassioned speeches and feel the weight of decisions that shaped centuries to come. The Georgian architecture, with its brick facade and notable steeple, paints a vivid portrait of a time when ideas of liberty and freedom took root. However, the rapid pulse of the city, contrasting with the solemnity of its historical monuments, gave us a mixed bag of emotions. The hustle of Philadelphia seemed a touch too frenetic for our tastes, particularly juxtaposed against the profundity of its historical sites. By 4:35 pm, we transitioned from one significant city to another. The train whisked us away, setting us on a course for Washington DC. As we watched the landscapes shift outside our window, it offered a moment of reflection, a brief pause before diving into another urban exploration. As we left Philadelphia, we couldn't shake off a slight sense of discord. While its historical landmarks are undoubtedly profound, the city's overall vibe felt a tad overwhelming for our liking. Moving ahead, we are keen to immerse ourselves deeper into Washington DC's narrative and ambiance. Emerging from the train station in DC, we were greeted by the towering Washington Monument and by the U.S Capitol. As darkness began to set, this iconic obelisk, dedicated to the first president, George Washington, was bathed in a soft glow, standing as a testament to the nation's dreams and achievements. Our day concluded at the Hyatt House Washington DC/The Wharf. Here, the scenic views of the Potomac River provided a soothing end to a day filled with transitions. 23rd April 2023 - Embracing the Heartbeat of America - Washington DC Washington DC is not just a political hub; it's the vibrant pulse of American history and culture. Today's adventure took us deep into the corridors of power and the sanctuaries of the nation's rich past. Starting at the US Capitol , an architectural marvel that stands tall, we were reminded of the countless legislative debates and decisions that have shaped the trajectory of America. Its iconic dome and expansive steps whisper tales of a democracy constantly in motion. Our next stop was the National Archives , a treasure trove of American heritage. Housing vital documents like the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, the Archives serves as a silent custodian of America's foundational principles. Our steps then led us to the iconic White House . Beyond its symbolic role as the President's residence, this building stands as a testament to leadership, pivotal decisions, and global diplomacy. Its pristine white facade has stood firm, mirroring the country's enduring values. From there, we sauntered to the National Mall . This vast green expanse, punctuated by stately monuments, has been a witness to both celebrations and protests, mirroring the nation's evolving spirit through the decades. As the day wore on, we approached the Lincoln Memorial . Here, the imposing statue of Abraham Lincoln looks out over the nation he once helmed, a beacon of hope and unification. Nearby, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial stands strong, a tribute to a visionary who dreamt of equality and justice. And then, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial caught our eyes, with its classical design paying homage to the author of the Declaration of Independence. As the cloak of night began to wrap the city, we revisited the US Capitol . Illuminated against the night's canvas, it shone with a different kind of magic, highlighting the delicate balance of power and grace. Our day in Washington DC offered profound insights into the ideals and aspirations of America. Lying back at the hotel, overlooking the Potomac, we found ourselves deeply moved by the rich fabric of history and the enduring spirit of a nation. 24th April 2023 - From the Capital's Solemnity to the Magic of Orlando Transitioning from the storied avenues of Washington DC to the fantastical lanes of Orlando made for an enchanting change in scenery. This day, we traded the solemn whispers of history for the vibrant calls of imagination. Our day took flight with Jetblue flight B623, which lifted us from Washington DCA Airport. The views from above offered a different perspective on the landmarks we had just visited, reminding us of the vastness of the land and the diverse tales it holds. As we touched down in Orlando at 4.45 pm, the atmosphere was distinctly different. There was an electrifying air of anticipation, a sense of magic that seemed to permeate every corner. The city, renowned for its world-famous theme parks, welcomed us with open arms and the promise of adventure. Post our taxi ride, there was no resisting the allure of Disneyland . Often hailed as "The Happiest Place on Earth", it did not disappoint. We found ourselves transported to a realm where fairy tales came alive, and childhood fantasies were realized. Be it the majestic Cinderella Castle that stands as an emblem of dreams or the delightful parades that bring beloved characters to life, Disneyland rekindled our sense of wonder. Amidst the whirlwind of attractions, rides, and shows, time seemed to blur as we reveled in pure, unadulterated joy. Drawing our magical day to a close, we went back to our hotel Today served as a beautiful reminder that while history provides depth and context to our existence, it's the moments of pure elation, often fueled by the magic of places like Disneyland, that truly make life worth living. Orlando, with its promise of boundless fun, was the perfect antidote to our historically rich escapades in the capital. We went to sleep dreaming not of the past, but of enchanting tales and adventures yet to come. 25th April 2023 - From Stars to Silver Screens - An Orlando Odyssey Orlando, often associated with fairy tales and whimsical adventures, took us on an entirely different kind of escapade this day. From the stellar stretches of space to the fantastical realms of film, we experienced a day that was truly out of this world. Our morning began promptly at 8 am with our bus picking us up for the much-anticipated visit to the Kennedy Space Center. The drive itself was scenic, allowing us glimpses of Florida's tranquil landscapes. On arrival, the magnitude of mankind's ambition hit us. The Kennedy Space Center is not just a testament to America's space achievements but is also a beacon for all human endeavors that push the boundaries of the possible. The Atlantis Exhibition was our first stop. Gazing upon the last shuttle that flew in space was a surreal experience. The shuttle, which seems almost otherworldly, is a testament to human engineering and the insatiable desire to explore the unknown. Its gleaming surface whispered tales of astronauts who once called it home and the incredible voyages they undertook. Next, we were transported back in time at the Apollo/Saturn V Exhibition . The sheer size of the Saturn V rocket is awe-inspiring. Standing beneath it, we were reminded of that historic moment in 1969 when Apollo 11 took the first humans to the moon. The exhibits, rich in detail and narrative, painted a vivid picture of the challenges, triumphs, and tragedies of the Apollo program. Returning to Orlando by 3 pm, we were spirited from the depths of space to the imaginative world of Universal Park Orlando . The allure of this cinematic universe is its ability to immerse visitors in the stories that have shaped our culture. From heart-pounding rides that brought action sequences to life to intricate set designs that seemed plucked straight from movie screens, Universal was a delight for the senses. Concluding our day, we returned to the hotel, conveniently located close to the entrance to the park. Reflecting upon our day, we were struck by the breadth of experiences Orlando offers. It's a city where dreams, whether they're of exploring the vastness of space or the realms of cinematic fantasies, truly come to life. Orlando continued to surprise and inspire us. Today was a profound reminder of the limitless boundaries of human imagination, from conquering space to conjuring stories that captivate hearts. As we lay our heads to rest, we were filled with a profound appreciation for the indomitable spirit of exploration and creativity. 26th April 2023 - Orlando to Las Vegas The early chirping of birds signaled our extremely early start. By 4:30 am, our bags were packed, and we found ourselves on our way to the airport in the muted glow of Orlando's dawning light. The city that had been so vibrant and lively just the previous day was now calm and subdued, with only the distant hint of daylight on the horizon. We boarded our morning United flight UA782, a swift connection taking us from Orlando to Houston. A brief layover in Houston offered just enough time to stretch our legs and grab a snack before we were airborne again on United flight UA1913, this time headed to the city of neon lights - Las Vegas. By 1 pm, the vast desert landscapes of Nevada cradled us as we descended into Las Vegas. The stark contrast of the arid desert against the opulent city structures is something to behold. A quick taxi ride later, we found ourselves standing in front of the iconic Bellagio Las Vegas, our home for the night. After some leisurely afternoon rest and perhaps a bit of daydreaming while gazing at the Bellagio fountains from our room, the evening held something truly special in store. By 7 pm, we were seated, eagerly awaiting the start of "O" by Cirque du Soleil . And, oh, did it live up to the hype! An enthralling blend of aquatic artistry, theatrical romance, and sheer performance prowess held us captivated for every one of its 105 minutes. With the applause still ringing in our ears, we decided to take on the Las Vegas Strip by night. The Strip, with its vibrant array of lights and the cacophony of sounds, was a sensory overload in the best way possible. Each casino and hotel told its own tale, from the ancient pyramids of Luxor to the Venetian's tranquil canals. The night was alight with energy, and the streets buzzed with people from all walks of life. A day that began in the quiet of an Orlando morning and whisked us through Houston ended amidst the resplendent lights of Las Vegas. It was a day of transitions, of shifting landscapes, and of contrasts. As we retired to our luxurious quarters in the Bellagio, we looked out over the glittering cityscape, reminded once more of the vastness and variety of experiences that travel brings. Las Vegas, with its shimmering allure, had only just begun to reveal its secrets to us. 27th April 2023 - From the Neon City to Nature's Wonders and Back Before the City of Lights even began to stir, we were already on our way out, bound for an adventure away from the flashing bulbs and into the grandeur of nature's own spectacles. The bus departed in the wee hours of the morning, and as the neon faded into the background, the desert landscape opened up before us, revealing itself in the early morning light. The sun began its ascent just as we neared the iconic Horseshoe Bend . By 9:30 am, we were there, and what a sight it was! The Colorado River wound its way, carving a U-shaped curve into the rock, an artist perfecting its masterpiece over millennia. Though the view was indeed arresting, getting there had its own allure. A brisk 15-minute walk from the parking area took us to the viewpoint. We took our time, soaking in every detail - the stark contrast of the blue-green river against the orangey-red rocks was a feast for the eyes. A short time later, we retraced our steps, memories of the Bend imprinted in our minds. By 11 am, the mystical Antelope Canyon X awaited. With the guidance of local experts, we explored this sandstone marvel. The play of light and shadow within the slender, undulating walls of the canyon was captivating. The narratives of the guides added depth to the visual splendor, as we learned about the canyon's formation, its significance in Native American culture, and its ever-changing nature. Leaving the winding walls of Antelope behind at 1 pm, our next destination was the colossal Grand Canyon . By 3 pm, we stood at the South Rim, awe-struck. Words often fall short in describing the vastness and magnificence of this natural wonder. Each viewpoint offered a different perspective, each more breathtaking than the last. On our way back to Vegas, a quick detour took us to the iconic Route 66 Shield in Seligman, AZ. A little piece of Americana, this symbol of historic highway nostalgia was a delightful pit stop. Las Vegas welcomed us back by 8:30 pm. And while we might have been away, the city had been buzzing with its usual vigor. A return visit to the Bellagio Fountains was a must. This time, set against the night sky, the waters danced, synchronized to melodies, creating a visual symphony. To round off our day, we ventured to the Fremont Street Experience. This vibrant pedestrian street, with its canopy of lights, live entertainment, and bustling energy, was the perfect ending note. From the raw, unfiltered beauty of nature to the man-made marvels of Las Vegas, this day was a testament to the diversity of experiences one can have within a span of mere hours. As we settled into our rooms at the Bellagio, we were reminded of the infinite possibilities that travel presents. And while the landscapes of the day were vast and varied, they were united in their ability to inspire wonder. 28th April 2023 - Trading the Desert for the Emerald City In the morning, we prepared to swap the desert city's dynamic allure for the verdant appeal of Seattle, the heart of the Pacific Northwest. We boarded Alaska Airlines flight AS733, our winged chariot to the north. However, as travel often reminds us, unpredictability is part and parcel of the adventure. A two-hour delay kept us grounded a tad longer than anticipated. Instead of being a cause for frustration, we took this as an opportunity to reflect on our recent escapades. The vibrant lights of Vegas, the profound beauty of nature in the canyons, and the vast stretches of road had left an indelible mark on our memories. By the time we touched down in Seattle, the clock showed 7 pm. The city's iconic skyline, punctuated by the sleek silhouette of the Space Needle, greeted us against the backdrop of the setting sun. Although known for its frequent drizzles, the city was clear, the air cool and crisp. The taxi ride to our hotel offered fleeting glimpses of this seaport city. Seattle, birthplace of grunge music and a pivotal player in the tech industry, carries its history with subtle grace. On our way, we noticed snippets of its rich past: beautifully preserved brick buildings from the Gold Rush era stood alongside gleaming modern structures. The harmonious blend of old and new is truly one of Seattle's defining traits. Our residence for the night was the Crowne Plaza Hotel Seattle. Trading the arid expanse of Las Vegas for Seattle's lush environs was an exciting shift. Every city has its own narrative, its own rhythm. And as our first day in Seattle drew to a close, the anticipation of delving into its stories filled us with excitement. The Emerald City awaits, and we are ready to listen to its tales. 29th April 2023 - Brewing Memories in Seattle Waking up in Seattle carries with it a whiff of excitement, almost as invigorating as the scent of freshly brewed coffee, a beverage the city is renowned for. Our first stop? None other than the birthplace of the now-global coffee giant: the original Starbucks . Located in the historic Pike Place Market, this unassuming store holds the distinction of being the very first establishment of what would become a world-famous coffee chain. The interiors, preserving much of its original design, whispered tales of humble beginnings and big dreams. From coffee beans to jet machines, our next stop was the Boeing Future of Flight . Situated a bit north of the city center, this aerospace gallery offers insights into the creation of aircraft that dominate our skies. The tour gave us a fascinating look behind the scenes, showcasing the craftsmanship, innovation, and sheer scale of commercial plane production. Returning to the city's heart, we shifted from the marvels of aviation to the wonders of art at the Chihuly Garden and Glass . Celebrating the works of Dale Chihuly, a master glass artist, this exhibition was a visual symphony of colors, light, and imagination. Each sculpture, intricately crafted, told a story of passion and artistic evolution. Our appetite for height still unsatiated post-Boeing, we made our way to the Space Needle . This iconic structure, synonymous with Seattle, offered panoramic views of the city, the neighboring islands, and the majestic Mount Rainier . Ascending the observation deck, we felt as if we were floating above the city, taking in its vibrancy from a bird's eye perspective. The day drew to a close at Kerry Park viewpoint . Offering a slightly different vantage point from the Space Needle, the park provided a picturesque scene of Seattle's skyline during twilight, with the waters of Puget Sound shimmering in the background. Seattle is a city that thrives on innovation and creativity, as evident from its contributions to coffee, aviation, and art. It gracefully bridges the gap between the past and the future, reminding visitors that while dreams can soar high like Boeing jets, they often start in places as simple as a small coffee shop. As we returned to the Crowne Plaza, our hearts were full, knowing we had truly tasted the spirit of Seattle. 30th April 2023 - Closing Curtains & Homeward Bound Our alarms rang out loud and clear at an ungodly hour, signaling the commencement of our long voyage back home. We quickly prepared ourselves and, with heavy hearts, bid Seattle adieu. Awaiting us was the first leg of our return: United Airlines UA2375 from Seattle to Chicago. The early morning streets of Seattle, devoid of their usual hustle and bustle, had a certain tranquility. The taxi ride, mostly silent, was filled with reflections on our adventures and experiences across cities. Landing in Chicago, we were greeted not by its famous architectural wonders, but by a blanket of gloomy clouds and pelting rain. The city's unpredictable weather played a dampener, quite literally, on any plans to briefly exit the airport and take in some sights. Instead, we remained indoors, utilizing the extended layover to relax. The day concluded as we boarded our overnight United flight UA953 to Munich. 1st May 2023 - Touchdown Munich and the Final Leg to Timișoara Munich greeted us with its classic European elegance. After a short stay, it was time for the last stretch. Boarding our Lufthansa LH1656 flight to Timișoara, there was an unmistakable feeling of excitement. No matter how exhilarating travels might be, the prospect of returning home carries its own unique allure. Travel often teaches us to appreciate the world's vastness, its diverse cultures, and histories. But perhaps, most importantly, it underscores the significance of home - the place where all stories begin and end. As our expedition drew to a close, we felt an overwhelming gratitude, not just for the places we'd seen, but for the place we were lucky enough to call home.

  • Cappadocia Up Close

    • Cappadocia (April 10 - 13, 2023) • Istanbul (April 13, 2023) 9th April 2023 - Timisoara - Bucharest Departing from Timișoara. We boarded TAROM flight RO608, eager to make new memories. As the sun was casting its long shadows, our plane touched down in Bucharest at 8 pm. Often referred to as the "Paris of the East", Bucharest is a fascinating blend of old and new. Historical buildings stand side by side with modern skyscrapers, giving this capital city an eclectic vibe. 10th April 2023 - En route to the Whimsical Terrains of Cappadocia The morning greeted us with anticipation, as we boarded flight TK1044 from Bucharest to Istanbul. Istanbul, the city that straddles two continents, acted as a brief interlude in our journey. Before long, we were up in the air again, this time on flight TK2012, en route to Kayseri. Upon landing, the landscape's transformation was evident. We swapped the urban hustle of Bucharest and Istanbul for the intriguing terrains of Kayseri. A private van awaited us, ready to whisk us away to Nevșehir. As we made the 1-hour journey, every twist and turn revealed the unique geology and history of the region. At 3:30 pm, Nevșehir, the heart of Cappadocia, welcomed us. This region, known for its distinctive “fairy chimneys” and ancient underground cities, has an enchanting history stretching back millennia. Carved by natural elements and humans, Cappadocia feels like stepping into a dreamy storybook. But the true adventure awaited us at 4 pm. Straddling our horses, we began our sunset trek. The journey commenced in Çavuşin , an old Greek village known for its rock-cut churches. As our horses trotted along, the scene transformed, revealing the captivating landscapes of the Rose Valley and Red Valley . The unique rock formations, shaped by time, wind, and water, stood tall against the setting sun, their silhouettes painting an unforgettable picture. After such an exhilarating ride, rest was calling. The Ramada by Wyndham Nevșehir was the perfect end to a day packed with travel and adventure. 11th April 2023 - Floating Above and Roaming Below: Cappadocia's Majestic Wonders If there's a universally accepted truth about Cappadocia, it's that the region is best appreciated from two perspectives: soaring high above and wandering on foot below. The day began early, well before the sun made its debut. A 4 am pickup heralded the beginning of what would be an unforgettable hot air balloon ride. As our balloon inflated, the horizons started to light up, hinting at the first rays of sunlight. Soon, we were floating effortlessly above Cappadocia's iconic landscape. The sunrise painted the sky in shades of grey, orange, pink, and gold, illuminating the land below and casting shadows over the distinctive fairy chimneys and caves. This one-hour flight felt both timeless and fleeting, giving us a bird's eye view of a world molded by nature and history. Descending from our aerial adventure, we ventured to the Pigeonniers troglodytes . These ancient cave dwellings, once home to countless pigeons, played a significant role in the agricultural life of the region. The pigeon droppings were historically used as a rich fertilizer for Cappadocian vineyards. Our journey continued to Pancarlık Church , a lesser-known gem that offers insights into the region's religious history. From the church, we made our way to Ortahisar Panorama . This vantage point, overlooking the town of Ortahisar and its rock fortress, offers a sweeping view of Cappadocia's distinctive topography. The ancient rock castle stands proudly, bearing witness to the region's storied past. Our explorations led us next to the Sword Valley and Love Valley (Aşk Vadisi) . Both valleys, with their peculiar rock formations and trails, are fascinating footnotes in Cappadocia's geological storybook. While the Sword Valley is named for its tall, pointed rocks resembling swords, Love Valley has its own set of unique and often humorously-interpreted formations. As if the day hadn't been thrilling enough, an ATV tour through Sword Valley awaited. As we sped through the trails, the skies, perhaps sensing our adrenaline, decided to join in and unleashed a sudden shower. The rain, while unexpected, added a layer of adventure, making the ATV ride even more memorable. Hungry and exhilarated, we found solace in the town of Göreme . Known for its rock formations and historical significance, it's also home to an array of restaurants offering delectable Turkish cuisine. After a day of exploration, there's nothing quite like a hearty meal to satiate both body and soul. Retiring for the night, we returned to the hotel. As we settled in, recounting the day's adventures, one thing was clear: Cappadocia, with its history, landscapes, and adventures, has a way of imprinting itself on the heart of every traveler. 12th April 2023 - Unearthing Secrets and Standing Amidst Legends: A Deep Dive into Cappadocia's Layers While Cappadocia's surface offers a visual feast, the true intrigue lies in peeling back its layers. Our fourth day in this land of wonders was dedicated to exploring both the depths and heights of its historical and natural marvels. The day commenced at the Kaymaklı Underground City (Kaymaklı Yer Altı Şehri) . An incredible architectural feat, this subterranean city once provided refuge to locals during times of invasions and conflicts. Winding tunnels, narrow passages, and intricately carved rooms extend several levels deep into the earth. The resourcefulness of its early inhabitants is evident in the city's sophisticated ventilation system and the presence of churches, stables, and communal rooms. As we meandered through its depths, we were reminded of the resilience and ingenuity of ancient civilizations. Emerging from the underground, the Evil Eye Tree in Uçhisar awaited. This peculiar tree, adorned with countless blue 'evil eye' amulets, stands as a testament to local folklore and the protective power these symbols hold in Turkish culture. Each amulet, catching the light at varying angles, created a shimmering spectacle against the backdrop of the natural landscape. Next, the Göreme Panorama beckoned. This viewpoint provides a sweeping overview of Göreme and the surrounding valleys. Against the vast sky, the town and its unique rock formations created a striking visual narrative, one that speaks of eons of geological evolution. A short distance away, the Göreme Open Air Museum (Göreme Açık Hava Müzesi) unveiled the spiritual side of Cappadocia. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a complex of rock-carved churches, chapels, and monastic cells, many adorned with frescoes that date back to the 9th century. The artistry and devotion evident in these frescoes transported us back to an era where faith and art intertwined seamlessly. As the afternoon sun cast elongated shadows, our journey led us to the Devrent Valley . Unlike other parts of Cappadocia, this valley is famed not for its historical significance, but for its fascinating lunar-like landscape and unique rock formations. Each formation seemed to hint at a shape, with some resembling animals and others, mythical creatures, leaving much to one's imagination. As evening approached, the town of Uçhisar , with its welcoming lights and inviting aromas, was the perfect spot for dinner. Traditional Turkish dishes, rich in flavor and heritage, provided a fitting end to a day of deep exploration. Returning to the hotel, the night was spent in reflection. Each corner of Cappadocia, from its depths to its heights, offers a story, a mystery, and a testament to the enduring spirit of nature and humanity. 13th April 2023 - From Cappadocia back to Timisoara with a layover in Istanbul's Historic Wonders Traversing the length and breadth of a country as diverse as Turkey, within a single day, is no ordinary feat. Our fifth day was marked by transitions, not just geographically but also temporally, as we found ourselves wandering through epochs of history. The day began early with a 6 am transfer from our hotel in Nevșehir to Kayseri airport. The first light of the morning painted the landscapes of Cappadocia in soft hues, prompting a quiet reflection on the previous days' adventures. Our morning took flight with Turkish Airlines flight TK2011, transporting us from Kayseri to the historical heart of Turkey, Istanbul. The city, a bridge between Europe and Asia, has always been a melting pot of cultures, religions, and epochs. Our layover in Istanbul was not merely a break between flights but an opportunity to step back in time. First on our itinerary was Hagia Sophia, an architectural marvel that stands as a testament to Istanbul's layered history. Originally a cathedral, then a mosque, Hagia Sophia whispers tales of Byzantine emperors and Ottoman sultans. Its domed ceiling, intricate mosaics, and grandiose scale speak of a time when empires vied for dominance and art was a medium of expression and devotion. A stone's throw away, the Topkapı Palace awaited. Once the imperial residence of Ottoman sultans, this sprawling palace complex offers glimpses into the opulent lives of rulers from the past. From the lavish courtyards to the treasury holding some of the world's most precious gems, every corner of Topkapı radiates grandeur and intrigue. Our historical sojourn was complemented with a visit to Sarayburnu Parkı . Positioned at the tip of Istanbul's historic peninsula, this park provides a tranquil respite. Overlooking the Bosphorus, the park's benches and pathways were the perfect spots for contemplating the city's skyline, where minarets pierce the sky, and the waters below play host to a dance of ferries and ships. But as the day wore on, our journey beckoned us forward. Flight TK2045 transported us from Istanbul's rich history to Bucharest and our journey concluded with TAROM flight RO609, taking us back to where it all began, Timișoara.

  • Hanseatic Heritage

Hamburg (March 29 - 31, 2024) Lübeck (March 30, 2024) Globetrotters: Philip Zaharie, Ariana Mîndru, Briana Paraschiv 29th March 2024 - TIMIȘOARA - MUNICH - HAMBURG Our journey began with a late afternoon departure from Timișoara, aboard Lufthansa flight LH1659, bound for Munich. The transition in Munich was swift, barely enough time to stretch our legs before boarding LH2086 to Hamburg, landing us in Germany’s northern gem at 22:05. Choosing to rent a car for flexibility, we navigated the night-time streets to Speicherstadt, where the Adina Apartment Hotel awaited us, promising rest and comfort in the heart of Hamburg’s historic warehouse district. This decision, favoring convenience over the city’s robust public transport, set the stage for a trip filled with exploration and discovery at our own pace. 30th March 2024: A Day of Industrial Marvel and Historical Wonder Our second day in Germany presented a unique blend of industrial innovation and historical exploration, offering a glimpse into the past and future alike. The itinerary spanned from a leisurely breakfast in Hamburg to an insightful tour at the Airbus Factory, followed by an evening immersed in the historical aura of Lübeck, and ending with a spiritually uplifting service in Hamburg. Our day began with a late breakfast at Tagliere e Vino, located next to Möckenbergstraße. This quaint restaurant, known for its exquisite Italian cuisine, provided a cozy start to our day. With a variety of artisanal cheeses and cured meats, their breakfast platters were a delightful prelude to the adventures that lay ahead. The visit to the Airbus factory in Hamburg’s Finkenwerder district was anticipated to be a highlight of the day, offering a rare glimpse into the intricacies of modern aviation manufacturing. This segment of our exploration aimed to connect us with the technological marvels behind some of the world’s most renowned aircraft. Upon arriving at the sprawling campus, the anticipation among us was palpable. The Airbus facility in Hamburg is pivotal in the company’s global operations, specializing in the final assembly of the A320 family of aircraft, along with contributing to the production of the A330 and A350 models. It’s a site where engineering prowess and precision manufacturing converge to create the giants of the skies. The tour commenced with a comprehensive safety briefing, underlining the importance of adhering to strict protocols within such an advanced manufacturing environment. Our guide led us through various segments of the factory. The initial excitement was tangible as we approached the final assembly line of the A320 family. Observing the assembly process of these aircraft, from sections to fully formed airplanes ready for their maiden flights, was intended to be an illuminating experience. As we moved on to the areas dedicated to the A330 and A350 models, focusing on the manufacturing of backward fuselages, the scale of engineering and logistics involved became increasingly evident. The sheer size of the components and the meticulous attention to detail required at every stage of assembly underscored the complexity of modern aircraft production. However, despite the initial fascination, the tour’s structure began to reveal a somewhat monotonous rhythm. The repetitive nature of certain explanations, coupled with the inability to interact closely with the processes due to safety restrictions, led to a gradual wane in our group’s engagement. The strict no-photography policy and the requirement to keep phones turned off further distanced us from the immersive experience we had anticipated. These constraints, while understandable from a security and safety perspective, added layers of detachment from the wonders unfolding before us. Reflecting on the Airbus factory tour, it’s clear that the opportunity to witness firsthand the birthplace of some of the world’s most advanced aircraft is undeniably fascinating. The glimpses into the future of aviation it offers are both educational and inspiring. Yet, the tour’s somewhat monotonous delivery and strict guidelines highlighted the challenges of making an industrial tour feel personal and engaging. Despite these limitations, the visit to the Airbus factory in Hamburg was a valuable addition to our day, providing a unique perspective on the aviation industry’s scale, complexity, and innovation. It served as a reminder of the human ingenuity and relentless pursuit of advancement that drives the world forward, even if the narrative could benefit from a touch more engagement and interaction. After our industrially tinged morning at the Airbus factory, the shift to Lübeck offered a refreshing plunge into the depths of history and culture. Known as the Queen of the Hanseatic League, Lübeck stands as a testament to its storied past, with its well-preserved medieval architecture and an aura that speaks volumes of its historical significance and the pivotal role it played in the Hanseatic League from the 12th to the 17th century. Lübeck’s role as a major trading hub during the Middle Ages cannot be overstated. It was the leading city of the Hanseatic League, a powerful economic and defensive alliance of merchant guilds and their market towns that dominated maritime trade along the coast of Northern Europe. The city’s wealth and influence are evident in its imposing architecture, much of which has survived intact, earning Lübeck’s Old Town a designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Wandering through Lübeck’s cobblestone streets, one is immediately drawn to the distinctive Brick Gothic architecture, a style that is emblematic of northern German building techniques during the medieval period. The Holstentor, the city’s iconic gate, serves as a grand entrance to a world that seems untouched by time, its massive structure and formidable towers reminding visitors of Lübeck’s historical importance and defensive needs. The Heiligen-Geist-Hospital, one of the oldest social institutions in the world, dating back to 1227, further exemplifies the city’s architectural beauty and its centuries-long commitment to community and welfare. This building, originally serving as a hospital and almshouse, now hosts Christmas markets and art exhibitions, bridging the past and present. No visit to Lübeck would be complete without experiencing its renowned marzipan, a confectionery delicacy that has become synonymous with the city. The Niederegger company, established in 1806, is not just a shop but a cultural institution in Lübeck, offering a museum that tells the sweet tale of marzipan’s history, from its Middle Eastern origins to its rise as a Lübeck specialty. Sampling this almond-based treat offers a direct connection to the city’s rich trading history, where such luxuries would have been imported along the trade routes that made Lübeck prosperous. Die St. Petri zu Lübeck, with its towering presence, invites visitors to ascend its spire for panoramic views of the city. This Gothic church, like the Marienkirche, stands as a spiritual and architectural landmark, offering insights into the city’s social and religious life over the centuries. Die Marienkirche, or St. Mary’s Church, symbolizes Lübeck’s medieval might and its enduring legacy. As one of the largest brick churches in Germany, it reflects the zenith of Brick Gothic architecture and serves as a reminder of Lübeck’s historical wealth and cultural depth. The church’s storied bells, fallen during a World War II bombing and left in situ as a memorial, resonate with the history of resilience and remembrance. Our day concluded with a dinner at The Newport Restaurant & Marina, where the culinary experience was as enriching as the day’s historical immersion. Sitting by the water, dining on local and international cuisine, offered a moment of contemplation on the day’s journey through time, from the heights of medieval trade to the cutting-edge of modern aviation. In Lübeck, every stone, every spire, and every narrow alleyway tells a story, weaving a narrative of a city that has seen the ebb and flow of fortunes, yet remains a proud custodian of its heritage. As we left its boundaries, the echoes of the past followed, reminding us of the enduring allure of history and the timeless lessons it offers. Lübeck, with its blend of historical gravity and cultural richness, stands not just as a destination but as a vivid chapter in the story of human endeavor and artistic achievement. The day culminated with the Easter Vigil at St. Petri Church in Hamburg, a Protestant church known for its spiritual ambiance and welcoming community. This service provided a moment of spiritual solace and reflection, encapsulating the essence of our journey. Our second day in Germany was a testament to the rich tapestry of experiences that travel can provide. From the technological advancements witnessed at the Airbus factory to the historical immersion in Lübeck, each moment was a step through time. The juxtaposition of modern innovation with the enduring legacy of the past reminded us of humanity’s continual progress and the enduring value of our heritage. As we retired for the night, the memories of the day promised to be a source of inspiration and wonder for years to come. 31st March 2024 - From Hamburg back home The final day in Germany, the 31st of March, was bittersweet, filled with the anticipation of returning home yet a reluctance to leave behind the rich tapestry of experiences we’d woven in Hamburg and Lübeck. The morning air was crisp as we ventured out after breakfast, intent on immersing ourselves in Hamburg’s essence one last time. Our day’s journey began at the heart of Hamburg’s natural beauty, the Binnenalster. This inner Alster Lake, with its expansive waters surrounded by the city’s bustling life, offered a moment of tranquility and reflection. The serene environment, juxtaposed against the urban backdrop, provided a unique blend of nature and city life, setting a contemplative tone for the day. Next, we found ourselves amidst the architectural grandeur of Rathausmarkt, the square dominated by the majestic Hamburg City Hall (Rathaus). The Rathaus, with its neo-Renaissance style, is not just a political hub but a symbol of Hamburg’s pride and historical depth. The square buzzed with activity, offering us a glimpse into the daily lives of Hamburg’s residents, amidst a setting steeped in history and significance. The Sankt Nikolai Mahnmal (Memorial) was our following stop, a site that stands as a powerful reminder of the destruction wrought by World War II and a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. The remnants of the St. Nikolai Church, once one of the tallest buildings in the world, now serve as a haunting memorial to the victims of war and violence. The memorial’s museum, located beneath the ruins, provided an insightful, if somber, perspective on the impact of war on the city and its people. Our exploration then led us to the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg’s jewel on the river Elbe. This striking concert hall, renowned for its acoustics and futuristic architecture, symbolizes the city’s vibrant cultural scene and its forward-thinking approach to art and architecture. The building’s glassy façade and wave-like rooftop design, mirroring the water it overlooks, left an indelible mark on our memories of Hamburg’s skyline. After marveling at the Elbphilharmonie, we ventured into the heart of Hamburg’s historic Speicherstadt, the largest warehouse district in the world where buildings stand on timber-pile foundations, laced with canals. This UNESCO World Heritage site, with its Neo-Gothic brick architecture, tells a story of Hamburg’s maritime commerce, its warehouses once brimming with goods from around the globe. Wandering through its narrow streets and bridges, we were captivated by the reflections of these storied buildings in the calm canal waters, a sight that beautifully encapsulated the blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal that defines Hamburg. The Speicherstadt is not only a testament to Hamburg’s past as a trading hub but also a vibrant part of its present, housing museums, cafes, and various attractions like the Miniatur Wunderland, the largest model railway in the world. This district, more than just a place of historical significance, embodies the spirit of Hamburg, bridging its illustrious past with a dynamic and innovative future. As we explored, the intertwined canals and warehouses of the Speicherstadt felt like a maze of discovery, each turn revealing more about the city’s rich heritage and its continual evolution. With hearts full of memories, we made our way back to Hamburg Airport for our flight LH2063 to Munich. Boarding Lufthansa LH1660 to Timișoara, we were part of a historic moment — our flight coincided with the first day of Romania’s inclusion in the Schengen Area, marking the erasure of aerial borders that once divided us from the rest of Europe. This milestone was a fitting end to our journey, symbolizing new beginnings and the breaking down of barriers, both literal and metaphorical. Arriving in Timișoara at 22:20, the familiar sights and sounds of home welcomed us back, yet the experiences of our journey lingered, transforming our return not just into a homecoming but the start of a new chapter. This trip was more than a series of destinations; it was a narrative of discovery, reflection, and connection—a journey through the annals of history, the pinnacle of modern innovation, and the warmth of human spirit and resilience. As we stepped back into the rhythm of our daily lives, the memories of Hamburg and Lübeck remained, timeless reminders of the beauty of exploration and the endless horizons that await when we choose to venture beyond the familiar.

  • Between the Thundering Falls and Serene Shores

Victoria Falls (February 23 - 25, 2024) Mahe Island, Seychelles (February 26 - 28, 2024) Praslin Island, Seychelles (February 28 - March 2, 2024) Globetrotters: Philip Zaharie, Ariana Mîndru, Briana Paraschiv 22nd February 2024 - TIMIȘOARA - FRANKFURT - WINDHOEK - VICTORIA FALLS Our expedition embarked with an evening flight from Timișoara, propelling us into the heart of an ancient continent known for its profound natural wonders and cultural depth. As we boarded Lufthansa flight LH1471 to Frankfurt, the air was alive with anticipation for the experiences that lay ahead. The brief interlude in Frankfurt was a seamless transition. This short layover served as a momentary pause, allowing us to gather our thoughts and prepare for the journey's continuation to Windhoek, Namibia. The excitement was palpable among us as we awaited our connecting flight, knowing that each passing moment brought us closer to the African continent. Our overnight Discover Airlines flight 4Y132 to Windhoek was underpinned by a sense of crossing into another world. The flight, a silent passage through the night skies, was a time for reflection on the vast distances we were covering, and the diverse landscapes, cultures, and histories we were about to encounter. Landing in Windhoek at the break of day, we were greeted by the first light of the African sun, marking the beginning of our exploration of this magnificent continent. 23rd February 2024 - Arrival at Victoria Falls Our brief stopover in Windhoek was just a precursor to the more complex leg of our journey. We boarded the Discover Airlines flight 4Y138 to Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe, our excitement building with every mile closer to our destination. Ahead of our trip, we had thoroughly informed ourselves about the entry conditions for Zimbabwe. As Romanian citizens, we knew we would need a visa upon arrival. The choices were clear: a single entry visa at 30 USD and a double entry visa at 45 USD. We had initially hoped to apply for the KAZA Univisa for 50 USD, which offers unlimited crossings between Zimbabwe and Zambia, a perfect fit for our travel plans. However, due to technical issues with the website, this option was unavailable to us. Given these circumstances, we opted for the double entry visa at 45 USD per person, a decision made with full awareness of our limited options. This situation, far from straightforward, required us to adapt our plans and expectations. Despite these challenges, understanding the visa process beforehand allowed us to navigate this crucial step with relative ease. This preparation was instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition into Zimbabwe, laying a solid foundation for the adventures that lay ahead. Our experience underscores the importance of thorough pre-travel research and flexibility, elements that became central themes of our journey. Transitioning from the airport to our hotel, our journey encapsulated the essence of travel within Africa. After navigating immigration and collecting our luggage, we prepared for the next leg of our journey, which included a transfer costing USD 40 per person. This segment necessitated a practical vehicle change, a straightforward but necessary step before crossing the bridge from Zimbabwe to Zambia, under the warm African sun registering at 37°C (99°F). Crossing the bridge provided us with stunning views of the landscape, a memorable passage as we moved from one country into another. Once across, we were met with the Zambian immigration process. Here, the smooth procedure was notably facilitated by the absence of visa requirements for Romanian citizens, a detail that greatly streamlined our entry. The vehicle switch, though a minor inconvenience in the heat, was quickly overshadowed by the efficiency of crossing into Zambia and the excitement of the experiences that awaited us. This moment of transition highlighted the practical aspects of travel, blending seamlessly with the anticipation of exploring Zambia's natural beauty. Upon completing immigration formalities in Zambia, the earlier challenges of the day began to diminish, replaced by the eagerness for what lay ahead. Our arrival at the hotel marked a significant milestone, offering us a chance to reflect on the journey and look forward to the adventures that awaited, including the majestic Victoria Falls. The Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort, in Zambia, served as our sanctuary, offering luxury and comfort amidst the wilderness. This resort was more than just accommodation; it was a retreat that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty and tranquility of Zambia. The exploration of the resort's offerings was a delightful experience, setting the stage for our venture to the Victoria Falls. Mosi-oa-Tunya indeed means "The Smoke That Thunders.” This term is aptly given to Victoria Falls, reflecting the phenomenal sight and sound of the falls. Exploring the Victoria Falls from the Zambian perspective was undoubtedly the apex of our adventure, a moment that went beyond the bounds of typical tourism. After settling into the Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort in Zambia, we ventured to the falls, a short taxi ride away costing USD 10. The entry fee of USD 30 per person granted us access to this magnificent natural spectacle. Witnessing the falls during February was a profound experience, marked by the zenith of their might due to the seasonal rains from November to March. The falls' overwhelming volume of water plunging into the abyss emitted a deafening sound and produced an astonishing visual display, truly a paradise for photography enthusiasts, like us. The journey along the various viewing points and the short bridge running parallel to the falls offered unparalleled opportunities to capture the essence of Victoria Falls, though it came with a reminder of the falls' power as the pervasive mist ensured a thorough soaking. This period's unique conditions meant a different viewing experience from the drier seasons, with the mist sometimes limiting visibility but enhancing the mystique of the falls. High water levels also necessitated certain safety precautions, restricting activities like swimming in the Devil's Pool. Nevertheless, the verdant surroundings provided a vivid contrast to the more subdued hues of other times of the year, making our visit an unforgettable encounter with nature's force. Spending close to two hours at the falls, we immersed ourselves in this timeless interplay between water and rock, a testament to nature's enduring craftsmanship. Exiting the park, we navigated the local market, engaging in the art of negotiation with vendors for souvenirs, a reminder of the vibrant culture that thrives alongside this natural wonder. Our return to the hotel by taxi, just as the sun began to set, marked the end of an exhilarating day. The Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort provided a serene backdrop to reflect on the day's experiences, nestled as it is in the heart of this breathtaking region. 24th February 2024 - A Thrifty Adventure to Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls After a tranquil start to our day at the Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort, we prepared for an afternoon excursion to witness Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwe side. With the sun scheduled to set at 6:45 pm, we planned our departure for around 3:30 pm, aiming to make the most of the daylight hours. In an effort to economize while still soaking up the full experience, we opted against the direct taxi ride to Victoria Falls National Park's entrance in Zimbabwe, which would have set us back 30 USD. Instead, we chose a more budget-friendly approach, taking a taxi for just 10 USD to the Zambia Immigration point. From there, we embarked on a 2km walk, approximately 25 minutes, to the park's entrance in Zimbabwe. This route not only offered significant savings but also allowed us to enjoy a leisurely walk across the bridge that spans the two countries, offering unique photo opportunities of the falls and the chance to encounter local wildlife, such as baboons, which, while common in the area, were harmless and added an element of adventure to our journey. This decision to walk between the countries was not only financially savvy but also enriched our experience with breathtaking views and unexpected encounters, making our visit to the Zimbabwean side of the falls even more memorable. Upon finalizing our entry into Zimbabwe, we approached the gates of Victoria Falls National Park with anticipation. The entry fee, set at 50 USD per person for international tourists, felt somewhat steep, reflecting the premium placed on one of the world’s most spectacular natural wonders. While understandable given the global allure of the falls, this price point did prompt a moment of pause, reminding us of the costs associated with experiencing such unparalleled beauty firsthand. Inside the park, the Zimbabwe side offered us a broad array of viewpoints, each presenting a distinct perspective on the falls’ magnificence. Despite the comprehensive vistas available here, which allowed us to see the falls in their full, sprawling glory, there was a part of us that remained partial to the experiences on the Zambian side. The immediacy and rawness of the falls from Zambia, where the mist felt more enveloping and the roar of the water more direct, held a special place in our hearts. Navigating the park also brought a practical insight to light: the drenching experience near the falls is invigorating but might be inconvenient for travelers with immediate departure plans. The prospect of boarding a flight in damp clothes is worth considering when planning the timing of your visit. Our return to Zambia was contemplative, set against the backdrop of a taxi negotiation that saw us paying 25 USD for the ride back to our resort. This expense, broken down into two segments, was a small part of the day's broader narrative of cost, value, and experience. The journey offered a quiet moment to reflect on the day's adventures, from the exhilaration of the falls to the unexpected dining situation that awaited us. The day's adventures culminated in an attempt to enjoy a refined dining experience at the Royal Livingstone Victoria Falls Zambia Hotel by Anantara. Our anticipation, built up through a reservation made well in advance, met a hiccup when we found no table ready for us at Kubu restaurant. The alternative arrangement, while appreciated, didn’t quite live up to our culinary expectations, underscoring the unpredictability of travel and the necessity of adaptability. Retreating to the Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort, the day's end found us in a reflective state, pondering over the intricate balance between cost and experience. The day was a vivid illustration of the highs and lows of travel, from the exhilarating views and encounters with nature to the nuances of navigating dining experiences and assessing the value of entrance fees. Each experience, whether it aligned with our expectations or deviated from them, contributed to the rich tapestry of our journey, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for the adventure of exploration and the beauty of the unexpected. 25th February 2024 - Departure from Victoria Falls Our day began with a morning departure from the resort, setting off towards Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe for our next leg of travel. The process of re-entering Zimbabwe necessitated the purchase of another visa for our third entry into the country, costing USD 30 per person. This additional step added about 15 minutes to our departure process, as the visa formalities were meticulously completed and applied to our passports. Our flight, Ethiopian Airlines ET823, was slated for a 1:05 pm departure. This leg of our journey included a stop in Gaborone, where, despite remaining on board, we transitioned seamlessly from one segment of our flight to the next without the need to disembark. The stay on the aircraft during this interim, while routine, provided a moment of pause, allowing us to anticipate the next phase of our adventure. By 9:40 pm, we touched down at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, marking the end of our day's journey across Africa. The evening arrival in Addis Ababa brought a mix of relief and anticipation for the next phase of our adventure. Our overnight layover in Addis Ababa presented a unique situation due to our lack of an Ethiopian visa, which would have been necessary for passing through immigration. Ethiopian Airlines kindly offered us complimentary accommodation, but this was for a hotel located outside the airport terminal, which would have required us to have a visa to enter Ethiopia. Recognizing this constraint, we proactively booked a room at the Skylight In-Terminal Hotel instead. This hotel, situated within the airport terminal itself, was an ideal solution, allowing us to stay overnight without the need for a visa, thus circumventing the immigration process and ensuring a smooth transit through Ethiopia. The overnight stay at the Ethiopian Skylight In-Terminal Hotel offered a comfortable and convenient respite, allowing us to rest and rejuvenate without the hassle of airport transfers or immigration procedures. This in-terminal accommodation was not just a place to sleep but a thoughtful provision by the airline to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of its passengers during layovers. 26th February 2024 - Arrival and Exploration in Seychelles Our adventure continued with a morning departure from Addis Ababa. Boarding Ethiopian Airlines flight ET879 at 9:30 am, we embarked on our journey towards the enchanting Mahe Island, Seychelles. The flight, lasting approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, was smooth, culminating in our arrival in Victoria at 2:20 pm, just as the rain began to grace the island with its presence. Upon planning our trip to Seychelles, we navigated the entry requirements by submitting an eTA online (https://seychelles.govtas.com), ensuring a seamless entry process upon landing. The taxi transfer to our chosen sanctuary, the DoubleTree by Hilton Seychelles - Allamanda Resort and Spa, cost us 900 SCR, approximately 65 USD, marking the beginning of our island retreat. Recognizing the limitations of public transportation on the island and the desire to explore freely, we opted for a car rental. This decision proved invaluable, allowing us to traverse the island's landscapes, with the assurance that no destination was more than 40-45 minutes away along the island's longest road. Despite the afternoon rain, we ventured out to Baie Lazare beach, a decision that rewarded us with stunning views and a refreshing escape. The rain did little to dampen our spirits, and upon returning to our resort, we couldn't resist the temptation of a swim in the hotel pool, adding another layer of relaxation to our day. Our resort's location on Anse Forbans beach was a highlight in itself, offering easy access to one of the island's picturesque beaches right at our doorstep. The evening unfolded with a dinner at the hotel, where we indulged in local flavors and international cuisine, encapsulating a perfect end to a day of exploration and relaxation. Our accommodation at the DoubleTree by Hilton Seychelles - Allamanda Resort and Spa provided not just a place to rest but a vantage point to the island's serene beauty, setting the stage for the days of discovery that lay ahead in this tropical paradise. 27th February 2024 - Immersive Explorations on Mahe Island The day of 27th February 2024, unfolded with a serene awakening at the hotel. Our morning commenced with a sumptuous breakfast, offering a spread that tantalized our taste buds and prepared us for the day's escapades. Energized and eager, we embarked on our trip to discover the renowned Beau Vallon beach, nestled on the north-western shores of Mahe Island. Beau Vallon beach, known for its wide and lengthy sandy expanse, beckoned us with its inviting waters and vibrant beach life. As we strolled along its shores, the beach revealed its distinctive feature— the majestic granite rocks adorning its northern end. These natural sculptures, standing as sentinels against the backdrop of turquoise waters, epitomized the unique geological beauty Seychelles is celebrated for. The contrast between the softness of the sand and the hardness of the granite created a visual and tactile experience that was both grounding and awe-inspiring. Our quest for beachside beauty didn't stop at Beau Vallon. Driven by a desire to explore more of Mahe's coastline, we ventured to Grande Anse and Anse Takamaka. Grande Anse greeted us with its sweeping bay, a picturesque scene of tranquility that seemed untouched by time. Anse Takamaka, on the other hand, offered a more intimate setting, with lush greenery fringing its edges, casting dappled shadows over the soft sand. The sound of the waves at both beaches played a symphony that resonated with the peaceful rhythm of island life, enveloping us in a sense of deep connection with nature. As the sun began its descent, we sought out the culinary delights of Green House restaurant. Returning to the hotel, we found ourselves reflecting on the day's adventures with a sense of fulfillment and gratitude. The gentle sound of the waves in the distance, the soft breeze carrying the scent of tropical flowers, and the starlit sky above all contributed to an atmosphere of unparalleled tranquility and beauty. ---------- 28th February 2024 - Embarking on a New Chapter The day began with the first light, as we prepared for our departure from the tranquil settings of the hotel on Mahe. Our next destination was Praslin, an island renowned for its pristine beaches and lush landscapes, promising a continuation of our Seychelles adventure. Opting for air travel over the ferry was a decision influenced by both cost and convenience; the ferry's journey of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes at a cost of around 60 EUR per adult contrasted with the swift and scenic flight option provided a compelling case for flying. Our journey was facilitated by Air Seychelles, whose efficient operation of multiple daily flights between Mahe and Praslin ensured a seamless transition for travelers like us. The choice of the Viking DHC-6-400 Twin Otter for these flights spoke to the airline's commitment to reliability and adaptability, qualities we experienced firsthand when our original flight, HM3110, was rescheduled to an earlier time, HM3104 at 10:35 am. This adjustment, a reflection of the airline's dynamic scheduling based on passenger load, was handled with professionalism and minimal inconvenience. The flight, a brief interlude in the air lasting only 12 minutes, was a marvel of efficiency, covering the 44 km distance with ease and offering us aerial views of the archipelago's stunning topography. Upon landing, our transition to Praslin's embrace was marked by a taxi transfer to our accommodation, with the fare of 600 SCR (about 40 USD). The Acajou Beach Resort awaited us, its location on the famed Cote D'Or beach a perfect testament to Praslin's natural beauty. The early check-in process was smooth, allowing us to quickly immerse ourselves in the resort's offerings and the beach's inviting sands. Cote D'Or's allure lay not just in its picturesque scenery but in the sense of peace it offered, a welcome respite and a stark contrast to the bustling life back home. Our afternoon was a leisurely exploration of Cote D'Or's extensive beach, where the gentle lapping of waves and the softness of the sand underfoot provided a tactile symphony of nature's calm. The decision to venture out, despite the resort's allure, was rewarded with encounters that enriched our understanding of the island's geography and community life. A short walk from Cote D'Or led us to a vibrant area teeming with shops and restaurants, a microcosm of Praslin's lively cultural scene. This exploration, though brief, was a dive into the everyday life of the island, culminating in a dinner at Pirogue Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant, with its Creole influences and fresh, local ingredients, offered a culinary journey that was as much a part of our Seychelles adventure as the beaches and flights. As night descended, the comfort of Acajou Beach Resort welcomed us back, its hospitality a gentle end to a day of discovery and movement. Our accommodation, nestled on the shores of Anse Forbans, was not just a place to rest but a vantage point from which to appreciate the quiet beauty of Praslin's nightscape. Lying in the tranquility of our resort, we reflected on the day's journey—from the early departure on Mahe to the serene expanses of Praslin's beaches. Each moment, from the anticipatory buzz of the airport to the culinary delights of Pirogue Restaurant & Bar, wove together into a narrative of exploration, discovery, and the enduring allure of Seychelles. This transition day, marked by flights, beaches, and the seamless interweaving of nature and culture, underscored the unique charm of island hopping in this paradisiacal archipelago, setting the stage for further adventures in the days to come. 29th February 2024 -  Praslin's Coastal Gem The leap year day of February 29th, 2024, found us eager to explore one of Praslin's most celebrated beaches, Anse Lazio. Opting for a more local and sustainable mode of transport, we decided against car rental in favor of the island's bus service. The bus system in Praslin offers a practical and affordable way to navigate the island, with tickets available at select shops. At just 10 SCR, the bus fare is not only economical but also a chance to engage with everyday island life. The convenience of a bus card, which you simply scan upon boarding, added a modern touch to our rustic adventure. Our destination, Anse Lazio beach, required a bus ride followed by a 1km walk, which included a notably steep climb. While the ascent was somewhat challenging, it was by no means insurmountable, offering both a physical exercise and an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the lush surroundings. This approach not only saved us a significant sum, compared to the 600 SCR one-way taxi fare from our hotel, but also enriched our experience with a sense of achievement upon reaching the beach. Anse Lazio greeted us with its stunning beauty, a picturesque setting that more than justified its reputation. We spent several hours lounging on its sandy shores, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and simply soaking in the serene atmosphere. The beach's natural beauty, coupled with the warmth of the sun, made for an idyllic retreat from the world. Our return journey involved a mindful walk back to the bus station, where we caught the last bus of the day— a reminder of the importance of keeping track of bus schedules to avoid being stranded. Arriving back at our hotel at 6:30 pm, we reflected on the day's adventures and the beauty of Anse Lazio. Dinner was served at the hotel's restaurant, Les Boucaniers, where the culinary offerings lived up to the high expectations set by our experiences thus far. The delicious food was a fitting end to a day filled with natural beauty and exploration. As we settled in for the night at the hotel, the day's experiences lingered in our minds. From the practical learning curve of using public transport on the island to the breathtaking vistas and tranquil moments at Anse Lazio Beach, every element of the day contributed to a deeper appreciation of Praslin's charm. 1st March 2024 - La Digue On the 1st of March, 2024, our adventure began with a brisk departure from our hotel to the ferry harbor on Praslin. The short, five-minute bus ride, preluded by a fifteen-minute wait, was the start of a day that would unfold into a fascinating exploration of Seychelles' natural beauty and historical allure. The ferry tickets were procured at the harbor for the Cat Cocos ferry, a reliable and efficient service connecting the islands. We opted for the 10 a.m. departure, with plans to return at 5 p.m., though the flexibility to return earlier was available. At 32 EUR per person for a round trip, the ferry offered a seamless transition between islands, setting the stage for our exploration of La Digue. Upon docking at La Digue around 10:15 a.m., the availability of bicycles and golf carts right at the arrival point was a welcome sight. With rental rates for bikes ranging between 150-300 SCR and golf cart hire at 10 EUR per person, we chose the latter for our group's convenience. For those who prefer a more physically engaging mode of transport, the bicycle presents an excellent opportunity to traverse the island's varied terrain, including its challenging slopes. Our adventure led us from the harbor to the northern side of the island, with our first destination being Anse Fourmis. The journey continued to Anse Patates Beach, followed by a stop at Anse Severe, where the sight of huge turtles added a touch of wonder to our tour. Our trek proceeded to Grand Anse, a stunning beach known for its pristine, turquoise waters, ideal for swimming. Despite the overcast skies and intermittent light showers, the beauty of Grand Anse remained undiminished. The climax of our island tour was Anse Source d’Argent, renowned as the most celebrated beach in Seychelles. The shallow waters, rich with algae, might not offer the best swimming experience, yet the beach's splendor was undeniable. The entrance fee to this beach, part of L'Union Estate, was SCR 150 per person, a small price for the experience of such iconic scenery. Facilities like toilets and showers were conveniently located near the entrance, and the path to the beach was lined with shops offering souvenirs, allowing for a blend of natural beauty and local culture. Our return to the harbor was hastened by the onset of heavy rain, leading to an earlier than planned departure on the 4 p.m. ferry back to Praslin. Safely back on Praslin by 5 p.m., we reflected on the day's experiences as we took the bus back to our hotel, the Acajou Beach Resort, where a delightful dinner awaited us. Our day trip from Praslin to La Digue encapsulated the essence of the Seychelles' natural and historical richness. From the convenience and efficiency of the Cat Cocos ferry to the breathtaking vistas and cultural experiences on La Digue, every moment was a testament to the archipelago's enduring allure. The Seychelles, with its blend of natural beauty, historical sites, and welcoming amenities, offers an unparalleled experience for the discerning traveler, making every visit a memorable journey into the heart of the Indian Ocean's treasures. 2nd March 2024 - A Travelogue of Our Journey Back Our adventure in the Seychelles continued into its final chapter on March 2nd, 2024, as we soaked up the morning sun on the serene Cote d’Or beach on Praslin. Known for its golden sands stretching along the coast, offering a tranquil retreat, this beach was the perfect setting for our last few hours on the island. Midday approached, and it was time to head to the airport. We opted for a van-taxi, which cost us 600 SCR, a reasonable fare for the convenience of reaching our departure gate without hassle. Our scheduled flight from Praslin to Mahe was at 4.20 pm, but, fortunately, we were rebooked on an earlier flight at 15.55. This change underscored a valuable travel tip for the Seychelles: the inter-island flights, while frequent, are subject to changes or cancellations for various operational reasons. It's essential to stay informed by checking emails and the airline's updates, especially in the 24 hours leading up to departure, to ensure a smooth transition between islands. Our foresight in booking the flight from Praslin to Mahe well ahead of our international connection to Istanbul was a decision well made. It gave us a buffer in case of any schedule adjustments, ensuring we wouldn't miss our connecting flight due to unforeseen delays. We landed in Mahe at 15.55 aboard Air Seychelles flight HM 3155. With some time to spare before our next flight, we opted to stay at the airport. The decision was partly influenced by the high cost of luggage storage, priced at 240 SCR per piece, which didn’t justify the brief window we had to potentially explore Victoria, the capital. At 9 pm, we embarked on our Turkish Airlines flight TK749 from Victoria to Istanbul, marking the beginning of our journey back to Europe. The flight was a quiet reflection of the wonderful experiences we had in the Seychelles, a bittersweet farewell to its shores. 3rd March 2024 - Arrival Home Arriving in Istanbul on March 3rd at 4.10 am, we faced a layover of nearly four hours. The Istanbul airport, with its sprawling facilities, offered a comfortable wait, although we chose not to leave the terminal area. Our next leg was with Turkish Airlines flight TK1629 to Munich at 7.55 am. After a 2h 40m layover in Munich we boarded our Lufthansa flight LH1656 to Timisoara. This final leg of our journey was smooth, and anticipation grew as we neared home. We touched down in Timisoara at 1.45 pm, the end of our extensive but fulfilling journey. From the lush landscapes of the Seychelles to the vibrant corridors of international airports, each step of our return was a reminder of the diverse experiences travel brings into our lives. Reflecting on our journey that commenced with the awe-inspiring majesty of Victoria Falls, and continued to the tranquil beaches of Praslin and La Digue, our trip encapsulated the incredible diversity of landscapes and experiences our world has to offer. Starting at Victoria Falls, we were greeted by the spectacular sight of one of the world’s most renowned waterfalls. The powerful roar and the misty veils of water plunging into the Zambezi Gorge were a humbling reminder of nature's grandeur. Following this natural wonder, the serene beauty of the Seychelles offered a peaceful respite. The golden sands and crystal-clear waters of Praslin and La Digue's beaches provided a stark contrast to the raw power of Victoria Falls, showcasing the tranquil allure of tropical paradises. Our days spent soaking in the sun, exploring the lush landscapes, and immersing ourselves in the laid-back island lifestyle were a testament to the beauty and adventure that lie in distant lands, waiting to be discovered. The seamless transitions between these diverse destinations, despite the potential for changes, underscored the importance of planning and staying informed. As we returned home, the vivid memories of Victoria Falls and the Seychelles remained etched in our minds—a reminder of the beauty and adventure that the world holds, inviting us to explore further.

The break of light was just around the corner, and the city was gradually coming to life. Packing our bags the previous day filled us with an undeniable excitement. Upon landing in Munich, we were welcomed by the grandeur of the Munich Airport. Though we had a 5-hour layover, the time seemed to flit by. We took this window of time to stretch our legs in the Lufthansa business lounge. . For our mid-day flight LH480 from Munich to Denver we were offered a complimentary upgrade to business class. The luxurious seating, exceptional service, and gourmet in-flight meals turned our transatlantic crossing into an utterly indulgent experience. Denver greeted us with its characteristic mountain-backed silhouette and warm Western hospitality. There's something about the crisp air and expansive landscapes of Colorado that evokes a sense of freedom. We collected our bags and headed straight for the car rental. With the keys to our vehicle in hand, we were ready for the next leg of our trip: the drive to Yellowstone National Park. The drive itself was an experience. As we left the city limits of Denver and ventured into the more open spaces of the West, the terrain shifted from cityscapes to scenic natural beauty. The Rocky Mountains stood tall, their peaks covered in snow even during the summer months. We traversed through quaint towns, winding roads, and vast stretches of untouched nature. Though the drive was long, the changing landscapes kept our spirits high. One hour before midnight, we reached our accommodation for the evening: Headwaters Lodge & Cabins at Flagg Ranch. Located just a stone’s throw from the entrance of Yellowstone National Park, the lodge is surrounded by the pristine beauty of nature. The cabins provided the perfect respite after a very long day, with their comfortable furnishings and an atmosphere of pure relaxation. Though our eyelids were heavy from the day’s travel, our spirits were undeniably high, eagerly awaiting the adventures that Yellowstone had in store for us the next day. 26th August 2023 - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK Yellowstone, a sprawling wilderness etched with geological wonders and a history that stretches back millennia, awaited our exploration. As the morning sun cast its golden light, we set out from our lodging, eager to discover the park's celebrated landmarks. Our first stop was the Midway Geyser Basin, home to the famed Grand Prismatic Spring. As the largest hot spring in the United States, its sheer size is awe-inspiring. But what truly captures one's attention is the vibrant spectrum of colors radiating from its center. A result of bacterial mats around the mineral-rich water, the brilliant blues, fiery oranges, and rich greens of the spring offer a vivid display of nature's artistry. No visit to Yellowstone would be complete without witnessing the spectacle of the Old Faithful Geyser. By 1.45 pm, we joined an assembly of nature enthusiasts, all waiting for the renowned geothermal marvel to display its might. As if on cue, a powerful column of steaming water rocketed skyward, living up to its reputation of reliability and grandeur. A testament to the park's volcanic underpinnings, this iconic geyser has been drawing visitors since the late 19th century. After the dramatic display, we moved on to Gull Point. Here, we were offered a panoramic view of Yellowstone Lake, a vast expanse of water cradled by forests and mountain ranges. As one of North America's largest high-altitude lakes, its tranquil surface reflects the natural beauty surrounding it, creating a picturesque tableau. However, as unpredictable as mountain weather can be, rain began to pour as we approached the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Yet, the rain only added to the drama of the landscape. This canyon, carved by the Yellowstone River, unveils a striking array of colors and formations. The deep reds and yellows of the rocks, a product of ancient volcanic activity, looked even more vivid beneath the veil of rain, and the cascading Lower and Upper Falls added a dynamic beauty to the scene. Our next stop, the Yellowstone River Overlook at Hayden Valley, presented a different kind of spectacle. This expansive valley is often dubbed the "Serengeti of North America" for its rich wildlife. From our vantage point, we spotted herds of bison grazing, an age-old scene that has played out on these lands for centuries. As evening approached, we made our way to West Yellowstone. This gateway town, steeped in the park's history, offers a delightful range of dining options. We indulged in a hearty meal, reminiscing about the day's highlights. By 9 pm, we found ourselves back at the comfort of our lodging. With the memories of the day still fresh, we retreated to our cozy quarters, ready to rest and recharge for another day in this incredible wilderness. Yellowstone, with its deep-rooted history and geological wonders, had proven once again why it stands as one of the world's premier natural sanctuaries. Every corner tells a story, every view evokes wonder, and every moment spent here leaves an indelible mark on the soul. 27th August 2023 - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK As the morning sun spread its golden warmth over Yellowstone, we set out, fueled by the excitement of a new day's adventures. Nature's call was loud and clear, and we were eager to answer. Our first destination was the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Fortunately, the weather was on our side today, revealing the canyon in all its grandeur. As one of the park's most treasured landmarks, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone showcases nature's might and artistic flair. The vivid yellows and reds of the rock formations, a testament to ancient volcanic eruptions, stood in stark contrast to the glistening waters of the Yellowstone River. The sights and sounds of the cascading waterfalls added to the raw beauty of the landscape, leaving us in awe of Mother Nature's craftsmanship. From there, we moved on to Mammoth Hot Springs. This geothermal wonder stands as a testament to the park's volcanic underbelly. With terraces formed from limestone, the hot springs have created intricate travertine sculptures over millennia. The steaming water, enriched with minerals, has carved out intricate patterns, making it seem like a living, breathing artwork. Historically, Native American tribes considered areas like these as sacred, and it's easy to see why. Lamar Valley awaited us next. Often referred to as the "Valley of the Wolves," this expanse is a hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts. The open meadows and rolling hills provide the perfect habitat for a range of animals, from bison to elk to the elusive wolf. As we made our way through the valley, we were treated to sights of grazing herds, a scene reminiscent of a time when these lands were untouched by modern civilization. Our next stop was Gibbon Falls, a cascade of beauty on the Gibbon River. As the water plummeted 84 feet, the roaring sound and the misty atmosphere created a magical setting. These falls are a reminder of the glacial activity that shaped much of Yellowstone's landscape thousands of years ago. As shadows lengthened and our stomachs rumbled, we headed back to West Yellowstone. The town, with its rich history tied to the park, offered a plethora of dining options. We settled into a local eatery, relishing dishes that reflected the region's culinary heritage. With stars beginning to twinkle overhead, we made our way back to the accomodation. As we settled down for the night, memories of the day danced in our minds. 28th August 2023 - FROM WILDERNESS TO URBAN SPLENDOR: YELLOWSTONE TO CHICAGO Our morning commenced as we bade farewell to Yellowstone National Park, a vast expanse of natural wonder that had left an indelible mark on our souls. As the first national park in the world, established in 1872, Yellowstone had provided us a glimpse into Earth's primordial essence. Making our way to Denver, the landscape gradually transformed. The wild terrains gave way to structured beauty: stretches of open plains that once bore witness to the westward expansion of pioneers, to the footprints of the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes, and to the ambitious dreams of gold prospectors. Our transition continued as we boarded United Airlines flight UA1844 for Chicago. Though delayed, the flight offered a moment of respite, and soon enough, the iconic skyline of Chicago began to take shape beneath us. Chicago, with its deep roots in American history, has been a city of innovation and resilience. From the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 to its rebirth, to the jazz rhythms that once filled its streets during the Roaring Twenties, Chicago's past was as captivating as its present. Arriving at O'Hare, the clock hands had already moved past the eleventh hour. The airport, one of the busiest in the world, buzzed with energy even at this late hour. Historically named after Edward O'Hare, the U.S. Navy's first flying ace, the airport stands as a testament to the city's rich aviation history. A swift taxi ride took us through the illuminated streets, leading us to the Waldorf Astoria Chicago. Standing as a beacon of luxury and sophistication, the hotel, with its Parisian-inspired design, promised a stay of elegance and comfort. 29th August 2023 - EMBRACING THE WINDY CITY: A DAY IN CHICAGO With the first light of morning filtering through the curtains, Chicago, the city of broad shoulders, awaited our exploration. Starting our day in the heart of the city, we headed straight for the Magnificent Mile, known to many as Michigan Avenue. As we strolled, the storied avenue unveiled its treasures: from iconic boutiques to architectural wonders, each facade whispered tales of the city's storied past. One could almost hear the sounds of the 1920s, with flappers and jazz bands that once graced these very streets. Next, we made our way to Millennium Park, a marvel of modern urban design. More than just a park, this space represents Chicago's reinvention, from the Great Fire to its present-day status as an international hub of culture. The park's centerpiece, the Cloud Gate (often affectionately called "The Bean"), reflected the city's skyline, providing a unique blend of nature and urban design. A short walk led us to the iconic Buckingham Fountain, one of the largest in the world. As water danced and played, the fountain paid tribute to Lake Michigan with its seahorse statues, representing the states bordering the lake. Its historical significance as a centerpiece since 1927 made it a visual anchor for our morning explorations. As the clock neared two, we made our way to the prestigious University of Chicago. Set in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood, the campus exuded an air of scholarly grandeur. Founded in 1890 with a generous grant from John D. Rockefeller, the institution has been at the forefront of numerous academic and scientific breakthroughs. The Gothic architecture of the quad, with its ivy-covered walls, transported us to an old-world academic setting. Post the enlightening admissions tour, a change of pace beckoned us towards the 57th Street Beach. The sandy shores of Lake Michigan offered a tranquil setting. As waves lapped softly, the vast expanse of this freshwater lake, one of the five Great Lakes of North America, lay before us, serving as a reminder of nature's grand scale. As evening approached, we wandered to the Chicago Riverwalk, a linear park that provided an intimate connection with the Chicago River. Historically, this river played a pivotal role in the city's development. With its reversed flow, an engineering marvel of its time, it stands as a testament to Chicago's innovative spirit. Finally, the day culminated in the hotel. 30th August 2023 - Chicago - Boston The morning began at an early hour, the streets of Chicago still bathed in the soft light of street lamps. As our United Airlines flight UA2334 soared eastward from Chicago, we bid farewell to the Windy City. In no time, we touched down in the nation's capital, Washington D.C. A city steeped in history, D.C. stands as a symbol of democracy and the enduring American spirit. Our layover in D.C. was brief, as United Airlines flight UA4193 whisked us away to another iconic city, New York. Landing at Newark Liberty International Airport by midday, the Big Apple's skyline greeted us, a testament to ambition, resilience, and architectural wonder. Interestingly, Newark Airport, opened in 1928, was the first major airport in the metropolitan area, predating both LaGuardia and JFK. With time being of the essence, we quickly picked up our car and started a short drive to Princeton University. Founded in 1746, Princeton stands as one of the Ivy League's most storied institutions. Its archaic stone buildings and verdant quads have been a cradle of knowledge for centuries. Though our visit was brisk, the essence of academic excellence was evident as we wandered through the historic campus. Boston was our final destination, demanding a lengthy drive from Princeton. As we traveled, the landscape shifted, hinting at the rich colonial history of the Northeast. Boston, after all, is a city that played a pivotal role in the American Revolution. Roads that now accommodate modern cars were once trodden by revolutionary heroes. Upon our late evening arrival in Boston, the Seaport Hotel awaited, a familiar comfort from a previous visit. Located in a district known for its maritime history, the Seaport area of Boston has transformed from a busy 19th-century shipping area to a hub of innovation and culture in the 21st century. From Chicago's vastness to Boston's historic lanes, with a touch of D.C. and New York in between, the day was a whirlwind of urban landscapes, each with its unique tale. As we settled down for the night, the mosaic of cities and their stories intertwined in our memories, creating a rich narrative of a day like no other. 31st August 2023 - IVY LEAGUE EXPLORATIONS AND A NIGHT JOURNEY TO COLOMBIA The day commenced in Boston, one of our favorite cities, a city synonymous with academic excellence and the clamor of intellectual discussions. Our morning was reserved for one of Boston's crown jewels: Harvard University. The Class of 2027 Academic Fair was in full swing, showcasing the dynamic blend of disciplines and opportunities the university offers its students. After Harvard, it was time to make our way to New Haven, Connecticut. New England's roadways unfurled before us, winding through picturesque towns and storied landscapes. Our destination? Yale University. Founded in 1701, Yale's sprawling campus, adorned with neo-Gothic structures, seems almost to whisper tales of academic fervor and historical events from centuries past. Although our visit was brief, the spirit of this venerable institution left an indelible mark. The sun began its descent as we set out for New York, our final Ivy League stop: Columbia University. Situated in the heart of Manhattan's Morningside Heights, Columbia stands as a beacon of knowledge amidst the urban cacophony. Established in 1754, it's a place where the past and the present meld in harmony, its academic traditions enriched by the vibrancy of NYC. Having traversed the world of academia, the time had come to bid farewell to the U.S. East Coast. A swift car drop-off was followed by our arrival at New York's JFK Airport. Named after President John F. Kennedy, this international gateway was bustling with travelers from all parts of the globe, each with their own stories to tell. As the clock neared midnight, we boarded Avianca AV245, ready for our nocturnal voyage to Bogotá. 1st September 2023 - Medellín The day began as our plane descended into Bogotá's El Dorado Airport, with the city's lights shimmering below. Touching down briefly in Cali, often dubbed the "Salsa capital of the world", our hearts resonated with the rhythms of cumbia and vallenato, even if only momentarily. But the real excitement awaited in Medellín, once known as one of the most dangerous cities in the world, but now a symbol of transformation and innovation. Medellín, the capital of Antioquia region, nestled in the Aburrá Valley, greeted us with a warmth distinct to its Paisa culture. Our first taste of the city began in El Poblado, an upscale district lined with verdant trees and bustling cafes. From there, the brilliance of Parque de las Luces, with its tall illuminated pillars, offered a modern contrast to the historic ambiance of the city. One can't experience Medellín fully without taking a ride in its iconic cable car system. As we soared above, the panoramic views of the city were unparalleled, revealing both its vibrant urban fabric and the verdant mountains surrounding it. Our next stop, Comuna 13, once a hotbed of violence, now stands as a testament to the resilience of the Medellín people. Colorful murals adorned its walls, with local artists narrating stories of hope, transformation, and community spirit. A taxi ride (worth every cent of the 50 USD) introduced us to two sites deeply intertwined with Colombia's tumultuous past: the resting place of the infamous Pablo Escobar in Montesacro Cemetery and the remnants of his once-grandiose prison, La Catedral. These locations, steeped in history, served as poignant reminders of the city's journey from a challenging past to its hopeful present. As night began to blanket Medellín, the Binn Hotel welcomed us with the promise of rest and reflection. As we laid down, the day's experiences swirled in our minds – a city reborn from its ashes, a tale of redemption, and the undying spirit of its inhabitants. Medellín had, indeed, shown us its soul. 2nd September 2023 - FROM THE GREEN MOUNTAINS OF MEDELLÍN TO THE HIGH ALTITUDES OF BOGOTÁ Bright and early, with the taste of Medellín's mountain air still fresh, we found ourselves preparing for the next leg of our trip. A taxi drive whisked us away to the airport, and soon, we were airborne, tracing our path to Colombia's capital. Touching down in Bogotá, the fresh air of its high-altitude location was immediately noticeable. The city, established in 1538, sprawls across a high plateau known as the Bogotá savanna and boasts a rich tapestry of historical and cultural landmarks. At the hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton Bogota Salitre AR, our rooms weren’t ready for early check-in. Our first excursion led us to the mountain that dominates the city's skyline, Cerro de Monserrate. A cable car ascent offered panoramic vistas of Bogotá's sprawling expanse. On its summit, the Basilica Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord and Our Lady of Monserrate stood resplendent, a beacon of religious reverence and architectural wonder. From spiritual heights, we descended into the bustling activity of the Paloquemao Market. The cacophony of vendors peddling their wares – exotic fruits, aromatic spices, and local crafts – was an overload of sensory delights. Then, an enlightening visit to the Gold Museum transported us back in time. As we perused its displays, each artifact told tales of ancient indigenous cultures, their rituals, and their unparalleled craftsmanship in working with the precious metal. The heart of Bogotá, Plaza de Bolivar, pulsed with activity. Flanked by the majestic Catedral Primada de Colombia, the historic Congreso de la República, and other emblematic buildings, the plaza is a living testament to the nation's storied past. Every cobblestone and brick of the nearby La Candelaria Centro Histórico seemed to whisper secrets of days gone by. As night began its descent over Bogotá, we finally settled into our rooms at the DoubleTree hotel, our hearts filled with the stories, sounds, and sights of a city that seamlessly blends its rich history with the energy of the present. 3rd September 2023 - Long way to Aruba... Our morning in Bogota started with the refreshing atmosphere of the city’s high altitude and a well-coordinated taxi ride to the airport. Our spirits soared as we imagined Aruba’s iconic beaches. But, as with life's most intriguing chapters, there was a twist in the tale. Denied boarding for our direct flight to Aruba, we found ourselves facing a challenge. Determined not to let this hiccup dampen our spirits, we swiftly navigated through our options. It was soon clear: our path to Aruba would now be via Quito and Panama City. With tickets for Avianca flight AV67 in hand, we settled in for an unexpected visit to Ecuador’s capital, Quito. 4th September 2023 - Aruba... We'd only experience Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport for a brief three hours. Our short sojourn in Quito was followed by the early hours of Copa Airlines flight CM153 whisking us away to Panama City. With just two hours, the layover was a blur of the iconic Tocumen International Airport, known as the hub of the Americas. Its reputation is not just for its pivotal location but also for its role in connecting the historic tales of the Isthmus of Panama and its world-famous canal, which forever changed global trade routes. Finally, with the sun high and bright, we boarded Copa Airlines flight CM348. Aruba awaited. By noon, we landed in Oranjestad, a whole day later than planned but with our enthusiasm undeterred. The island greeted us with its signature warm, turquoise waters and balmy air. Following a taxi ride, we found ourselves at Palm Beach, a strip of paradise synonymous with Aruba’s reputation. Soft sands underfoot and the inviting ocean ahead, it was the perfect antidote to our prolonged travel. As for our lodging, while the Holiday Inn Resort Aruba-Beach Resort & Casino had a reputation for comfort and good price-quality ratio, our experience was a tad underwhelming. It felt a bit steep in price for what it offered. Nonetheless, with the evening setting in, we were ready to dive deeper into the island’s allure and seek out its hidden gems. 5th September 2023 - Aruba’s Coastal Allure: A Day Between Palm & Eagle Beaches As the brisk morning gave way, the allure of Aruba's famous coastlines beckoned. Palm Beach, with its effervescent spirit and pristine sands, was our first stop. Known as a lively hotspot, it lived up to its reputation, with cafes and kiosks serving tropical delicacies lining the shore. Taking to the crystalline waters, we tried our hand at Stand-Up Paddling. The initial wobbles gave way to bouts of laughter and a feeling of connection with the vast ocean. Surrounded by the vast expanse of cerulean, one couldn’t help but feel a rush of invigoration. Later in the day, we made our way to Eagle Beach. Distinct from Palm Beach's lively vibe, Eagle Beach offered a more tranquil experience. Historically, it has been revered for its wide stretch of white sands and iconic Fofoti trees, shaped over decades by the winds off the coast. 6th of September 2023 - The way back The day was marked by a leisurely tempo as we relished our final moments on Palm Beach. The soft rustle of palm trees and the distant whisper of waves offered a perfect backdrop for relaxation. As the afternoon shadows grew long, our mode shifted from relaxation to preparation. A timely taxi ride brought us to the airport, where we prepared for our overnight flight back home. KLM Flight KL767, bound for Amsterdam with a stopover in Curacao, was our flight for the night. Curacao, a fellow member of the Dutch Caribbean, stands as a testament to the blend of European architecture with Caribbean flair. Even our brief touch-down in its airport hinted at its vibrant culture. 7th September 2023 - Home The fresh morning air of Amsterdam greeted us as we disembarked. However, we soon boarded Lufthansa flight LH993 to Frankfurt. Without much delay, we were airborne again on Lufthansa flight LH114 to Munich. Our final flight for the day, Lufthansa LH1660, took us to our home town, Timișoara.

  • Whispers of the North

Rovaniemi (December 8 - 10, 2023) Helsinki (December 10, 2023) Globetrotters: Philip Zaharie, Ariana Mîndru, Briana Paraschiv 8th December 2023 - TIMIȘOARA - FRANKFURT - HELSINKI - ROVANIEMI On the 8th of December, 2023, our journey to the Arctic edge took flight, weaving through the skies from Timisoara to the enchanting landscapes of Rovaniemi, Lapland. Our passage involved a series of flights - starting with LH1471 to Frankfurt, connecting through LH850 to Helsinki, and culminating with AY539 directly into the heart of Finnish Lapland. Each flight progressively brought us closer to the winter enchantment that awaited. As we landed in Rovaniemi at 9:30 pm, we stepped into a world where the winter night was softened by a delicate snowfall, enhancing the magical atmosphere of Rovaniemi. Although the deep darkness of the winter evening enveloped us, it was not the complete polar night but rather a twilight, hinting at the brief appearance of the sun the following day. This soft glow under the snow clouds created a serene yet mysterious ambiance, a prelude to the Arctic winter's beauty. The drive from the airport to Luxury Villa Lapland was nothing short of magical. As snowflakes danced in the glow of the streetlights, our route through the snow-covered landscape felt like a passage through a hidden world, anticipating the warmth and comfort awaiting us. The villa, nestled in the heart of this winter wonderland, promised a cozy retreat from the Arctic chill. Luxury Villa Lapland stood as a place of warmth and luxury against the backdrop of the snowy night. Its welcoming lights and the promise of a cozy interior offered the perfect sanctuary after our journey through the skies and the snowy roads of Rovaniemi. This was to be our home base for an adventure in a land where the sun skims the horizon even in the depths of winter, creating a unique blend of twilight and darkness that defines the polar winter days. 9th December 2023 - ROVANIEMI The second day of our adventure in Rovaniemi was filled with the promise of enchanting experiences, from the mystical depths of SantaPark to the festive ambiance of Santa Claus Village and the exhilarating thrill of a husky sleigh ride through the snow-draped forests. Each moment was a chapter in our winter tale, weaving together the magic, tradition, and breathtaking beauty of Lapland. SantaPark Our day commenced with a visit to SantaPark, an underground wonderland that beckons with the allure of Christmas magic hidden beneath the landscape. This subterranean sanctuary was a realm of joy, where every corridor and cavern was infused with the spirit of the holiday season. The enchanting Ice Gallery, with its sculptures shimmering in the dimly lit hall, and the elf workshops buzzing with the sounds of Christmas preparations, were sights that brought the fantasy of the North Pole to life. Despite our eagerness, the anticipation of meeting Santa Claus himself was met with the reality of a winding queue that snaked through the heart of SantaPark. The wait to see Santa was long, and with time pressing against us, we made the difficult decision not to join the queue, saving the moment for another day, perhaps another journey, and instead immersed ourselves in the other wonders that SantaPark had to offer. Santa Claus Village Our spirits undampened, we ventured next to Santa Claus Village (Joulupukin Pajakylä), where the festive atmosphere was palpable in the air crisp with polar chill. The village, a lively hub of Christmas spirit and Lappish culture, was adorned with lights and snow, creating a picturesque scene straight out of a holiday card. We explored the various shops, each a trove of local crafts and souvenirs, from intricate Sami jewelry to cozy reindeer hides. Amidst this exploration, we took a moment to indulge in a traditional Lappish culinary experience—a savory reindeer steak for lunch. This hearty meal, deeply rooted in the region's culinary tradition, provided not just sustenance but also a meaningful connection to the local culture and the lappish environment. The rich flavors of the reindeer steak, a staple of Lappish cuisine, offered us an authentic taste of the North, further enriching our journey through Lapland. A highlight of the visit was the Arctic Circle marker, a line that many believe runs directly through the village. However, a quick verification via Google Earth reveals that the true Arctic Circle is actually a few seconds of latitude further north. Despite this geographical minutiae, the symbolic crossing of the Arctic Circle within the village added a sense of adventure and achievement to our visit, marking our passage into the realm of the Arctic. Husky Sleigh Ride As twilight approached, we prepared for the much-anticipated husky sleigh ride, an adventure that promised to whisk us through the winter landscape in the company of these remarkable northern canines. The cold was biting, with temperatures plummeting to -14°C, and the sky overcast, shrouding our hopes of witnessing the Northern Lights. Yet, the experience of gliding through the snow, led by a team of eager huskies, was exhilarating, a connection to the wild heart of Lapland that needed no auroral display to be memorable. Our adventure through the snow culminated in a traditional Lappish barbecue within the cozy confines of a kota, a tent that offered refuge from the cold. Surrounded by fellow tourists, we roasted marshmallows, and savoured the flavors of hot blueberry juice and grilled sausages, a simple yet profound pleasure that encapsulated the essence of Lappish hospitality. The journey back to Luxury Villa Lapland was a quiet reflection on the day's adventures. Arriving before 10 pm, we were enveloped once again in the warmth and luxury of our Arctic abode. The villa, with its elegant comfort, was the perfect end to a day filled with magic, tradition, and the exhilarating beauty of the Lapland winter. As we settled in for the night, the experiences of the day — from the festive halls of SantaPark to the lively atmosphere of Santa Claus Village and the thrill of the husky sleigh ride — lingered in our minds, a tapestry of memories that we would carry with us long after our departure. 10th December 2023 - ROVANIEMI - HELSINKI - STOCKHOLM - MUNICH - TIMIȘOARA On the 10th of December, 2023, our journey transitioned from the Arctic wilderness of Lapland to the historical and cultural heart of Finland, Helsinki. This day of travel was punctuated by a poignant visit to Helsinki's Senate Square, an emblematic space that captures the essence of Finnish history and neoclassical architecture. Our morning began with a departure from Rovaniemi aboard Norwegian Air Sweden flight D8 2521. As we bid farewell to the magical landscapes of Lapland, we carried with us memories of snow-draped forests and the northern lights' elusive beauty. The flight served as a bridge, connecting the serene wilderness of the north to the bustling life of Helsinki. Upon arrival in Helsinki, we maximized our layover by delving into the heart of the city's festive spirit at the Christmas market in Senate Square (Senaatintori). Surrounded by some of Helsinki's most significant neoclassical buildings, Senate Square is a nexus of Finnish culture and history. The Helsinki Cathedral, standing majestically over Senate Square, is more than just an architectural landmark; it's a symbol of the city and a testament to Finland's rich historical and cultural fabric. Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, a German architect who left a significant mark on Helsinki's cityscape, the cathedral is a pinnacle of neoclassical architecture. Its completion in 1852 marked a defining moment in Helsinki's architectural evolution, embodying the aspirations of the city and nation during that era. The cathedral's striking white facade, crowned with a series of green domes, creates a visually stunning contrast against the often grey Nordic sky. The central dome, supported by four smaller domes, draws inspiration from neoclassical ideals, emphasizing symmetry, simplicity, and grandeur. The cathedral's front is adorned with a set of grand steps that lead up to a portico flanked by Corinthian columns, a nod to classical antiquity's architectural principles. Originally dedicated to St. Nicholas, the patron saint of seafarers, the cathedral was named to honor the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, reflecting Finland's political status as an autonomous Grand Duchy under the Russian Empire at the time of its construction. Following Finland's independence in 1917, the cathedral emerged as a symbol of national identity, severing its ties to Russian imperial influence and embracing its role as a central figure in Finnish religious and cultural life. Inside, the cathedral's interior is marked by its spaciousness and light, embodying the Lutheran aesthetic of clarity and simplicity. The altar, pulpit, and organ are focal points of the interior, each crafted with attention to detail that speaks to the cathedral's significance as a place of worship and community gathering. Overlooking Senate Square, the Helsinki Cathedral not only dominates the physical landscape but also occupies a central place in the cultural and spiritual heart of Helsinki. It has witnessed countless historical events, celebrations, and moments of national significance, making it a living monument to Finland's journey through history. The cathedral continues to be a beacon for both locals and visitors, drawing thousands each year to experience its architectural beauty and to reflect on the enduring spirit of Finland. The statue in Helsinki’s Senate Square is a tribute to Emperor Alexander II of Russia, recognized for his significant reforms that benefited Finland during the 19th century. Erected in 1894 and crafted by Finnish sculptor Walter Runeberg, the statue honors Alexander II’s role in enhancing Finnish autonomy, including the establishment of the Diet of Finland and the promotion of Finnish language and culture. These actions earned him the title “The Liberator” among Finns, reflecting the gratitude and respect held for his progressive rule. Standing at the heart of the square, the statue not only commemorates these historical contributions but also adds to the cultural and historical landscape of the area, drawing visitors’ attention to the interconnectedness of Finnish-Russian history. The Christmas market itself was a whirlwind of colors, scents, and sounds. Amidst the backdrop of Senate Square's historic edifices, including the cathedral, we indulged in the warmth of Finnish hospitality, savoring traditional delicacies and marveling at the craftsmanship of local artisans. This festive experience, framed by the square's architectural and historical grandeur, offered a profound connection to Helsinki's spirit. Our festive interlude in Helsinki concluded as we embarked on the next leg of our journey home, first to Stockholm Arlanda on SAS flight SK 719, and then transitioning through Munich before finally returning to Timisoara. Each segment of our return, marked by brief layovers, was a moment to reflect on the rich tapestry of experiences we'd woven together during our adventure. Arriving home in Timisoara at midnight, we stepped back into familiar surroundings, enriched by the memories of our winter exploration. From the magical realms of Rovaniemi to the historical richness of Helsinki's Senate Square and the iconic Helsinki Cathedral, our journey was a testament to the beauty, culture, and spirit of the Lappish and Finnish heritage. As we settled back into the rhythm of daily life, the experiences of our winter adventure lingered in our hearts, a cherished narrative of exploration and discovery.

  • Under the Tuscan Sky

Florence (November 1 - 4, 2023) San Marino (November 2, 2023) San Gimignano (November 3, 2023) Siena (November 3, 2023) Pisa (November 3, 2023) Globetrotters: Philip Zaharie, Ariana Mîndru, Briana Paraschiv 1st November 2023 - TIMIȘOARA - FLORENCE Our journey commenced with the excitement of new discoveries as we boarded flight LH1659 from Timișoara to Munich.  After a brief transit in Munich, we were airborne again on flight EN8198, heading towards the enchanting city of Florence. Florence, with its rich history as the cradle of the Renaissance, awaited our eager exploration. Upon arrival, the city greeted us with its distinctive architectural beauty, where every building and street seemed to hold a story. The night lent Florence a magical quality, with the soft illumination of its historic buildings and streets creating a captivating ambiance. Our accommodation at La Torre del Cestello - Residenza d'epoca was a perfect reflection of this ambiance. This historical residence, set in a building that harkened back to the Renaissance era, offered a luxurious and authentic Florentine experience. The apartment, with its elegant decor and historical charm, was a harmonious continuation of our journey through time. Exploring Florence by night was an awe-inspiring experience. The city, illuminated in a gentle glow, revealed its treasures in a more intimate setting. The iconic Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River, the majestic Duomo standing tall against the night sky, and the quiet, art-laden streets all combined to create an unforgettable first night in this city of art and history. 2nd November 2023 - A Day of Historic Exploration Our second day in Italy unfolded with an early departure from Florence, a city where the Renaissance left an indelible mark on every street and piazza. We left behind the art-filled alleys and stunning architecture of Florence, embarking on a road trip to one of Europe's most intriguing microstates - San Marino. The drive from Florence to San Marino, covering about 250 kilometers, was a journey through diverse Italian landscapes, each echoing a different part of the country's rich history. As we meandered through the Tuscan countryside, the scenery reminded us of the area's deep historical roots, stretching back to Etruscan times and flourishing during the Renaissance. The rolling hills and vineyards outside our windows were more than just picturesque scenery; they were lands that had witnessed the rise and fall of powerful families like the Medicis and the march of armies during Italy's unification. San Marino: A Sovereign Relic Arriving in San Marino, a landlocked sovereign state nestled on Mount Titano, was like stepping into a medieval world. Founded in 301 AD by Saint Marinus, a stonemason seeking refuge from religious persecution, San Marino prides itself on being one of the world's oldest republics. This sense of historical continuity is palpable as you walk its ancient streets. The city’s architecture is a living museum of its storied past. We visited the Three Towers of San Marino, located on the peaks of Mount Titano. These fortresses, dating back to the 11th century, have served as defensive strongholds throughout the republic's history. The oldest, Guaita, was constructed in the 11th century and has been a silent witness to San Marino’s enduring independence, even as surrounding territories fell to foreign powers. The Palazzo Pubblico, San Marino's town hall and government building, is an exemplary piece of medieval architecture. Its façade, adorned with coats of arms and a clock tower, overlooks the Piazza della Libertà, a testament to the republic's long-standing dedication to freedom and self-governance. Return to Florence: Reflecting on the Day Our return drive to Florence in the late afternoon was a time to reflect on the stark contrast between the bustling Renaissance city and the tranquil medieval streets of San Marino. The landscapes seemed to narrate Italy's complex history as we drove back through the Tuscan countryside, where every hilltop and valley had a story to tell. The day culminated with an exquisite dinner at La Buchetta Food & Wine Restaurant in Florence. Renowned for its blend of traditional Tuscan cuisine and innovative culinary approaches, the restaurant provided a perfect setting to unwind. Our highlight was the Fiorentina steak, a Tuscan specialty known for its rich flavor and succulent texture. Savoring this delicacy, crafted from locally sourced ingredients, we reminisced about our day's journey through time, from the bustling streets of Florence to the serene, historic paths of San Marino. Our second day in Italy was more than a sightseeing trip; it was a voyage through time. From the Renaissance splendors of Florence to the medieval walls of San Marino, we traversed centuries of history, gaining a deeper appreciation for the region's rich cultural tapestry. As we rested that night, the day's experiences swirled in our minds, a blend of art, history, and the enduring spirit of Italy. 3rd November 2023 - Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, and Pisa Our day began with a departure from Florence. Heading towards San Gimignano, we traversed the Tuscan landscape, a region that has been the backdrop of history, art, and culture for centuries. San Gimignano: The Town of Fine Towers Emerging through the Tuscan fog, San Gimignano presented itself like a scene from a medieval tapestry. Known as the 'Town of Fine Towers', San Gimignano's history is as fascinating as its skyline. Established by the Etruscans in the 3rd century BC, it flourished in the Middle Ages due to its location on the Via Francigena, the pilgrimage route to Rome. The town's prosperity in the 12th and 13th centuries led to the construction of numerous towers, built by wealthy families to display their economic and political power. Originally boasting 72 towers, only 14 remain today, but they still dominate the town's skyline, offering a glimpse into its affluent past. The rain, while hindering our exploration, lent an air of mystique to the ancient stone buildings and cobbled streets, imbuing them with a sense of enduring timelessness. Siena: A Gothic Masterpiece The drive to Siena was a journey from one historical treasure to another. As we entered Siena, we were enveloped in its rich history. The city, famous for its Gothic architecture, is a living museum. The Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena), commenced in the 12th century, is a pinnacle of Gothic architecture. Its elaborate façade, adorned with intricate sculptures and mosaics, and the unique black and white marble stripes symbolize the city's artistic heritage. Siena’s historical significance extends beyond its cathedral. The city’s fan-shaped central square, Piazza del Campo, is renowned for hosting the Palio horse race, a tradition that dates back to medieval times and embodies the city’s communal spirit and competitive history. This square, with its shell shape, is surrounded by various historical buildings, including the Palazzo Pubblico with its imposing Torre del Mangia. Walking through the streets of Siena, we were captivated by the well-preserved medieval cityscape, which allowed us to envision life in a thriving 13th-century Tuscan city. Evening: Culinary Excellence at Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence Returning to Florence, we prepared for an evening at Enoteca Pinchiorri. This restaurant, a jewel in Florence’s culinary crown, holds three Michelin stars and is situated in a Renaissance palace. Dining at Enoteca Pinchiorri was not just a meal; it was an experience that blended the rich traditions of Tuscan cuisine with contemporary gastronomy. Each dish was a testament to the chef’s mastery, showcasing local ingredients and innovative techniques. Night: Piazalle Michelangelo and the Leaning Tower of Pisa Our visit to Piazalle Michelangelo offered a panoramic view of Florence, a city where every corner is steeped in art and history. The view from this vantage point at night, with the city lights reflecting off the Arno River, was nothing short of magical. The night took us further to Pisa, where we stood in awe of the Leaning Tower. This bell tower, part of the cathedral complex, is famous worldwide for its unintended tilt. Construction of the tower began in 1173 and took nearly 200 years to complete. The tilt, due to the soft ground, started during its construction and progressively worsened until restoration efforts stabilized it in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is not only an architectural wonder but also a symbol of human ingenuity and persistence. Our return to Florence after midnight marked the end of a day rich in history and cultural experiences. 4th November 2023 - Florence's Artistic Wonders The morning in Florence was an intimate encounter with the Renaissance. The Uffizi Museum, a cornerstone of art history, was our first destination. Originally designed by Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century as offices for the Florentine magistrates, it transformed into a gallery under the Medici family, showcasing their extensive art collection. The museum's corridors and rooms are lined with works that changed the course of art history, from Botticelli’s ‘Primavera’ to Caravaggio's ‘Medusa’. After leaving the Uffizi Museum, we wandered through the winding streets of Florence's historic heart, making our way to the iconic Ponte Vecchio. This medieval stone bridge, with its shops built upon its edges, is a testament to Florence's enduring charm. Historically home to goldsmiths and jewelers, the bridge's bustling commerce and picturesque views over the Arno River offered a brief interlude filled with the essence of Florentine life Our stroll through the historic center of Florence brought us also to the Accademia Gallery, home to Michelangelo's David. Although we couldn’t secure tickets, the history of David remains fascinating. Created between 1501 and 1504, this masterpiece is renowned not just for its size and beauty, but for its representation of Renaissance ideals. Michelangelo carved David from a single block of Carrara marble, and it originally stood in the Piazza della Signoria as a symbol of Florentine freedom and defiance against larger rival states. After our attempt to visit Michelangelo's David at the Accademia Gallery, we ventured towards the historic heart of Florence's civic life, the Palazzo Vecchio. This imposing fortress-palace serves as the city hall and stands as a symbol of the civic pride and political history of Florence. With its crenellated battlements and the towering form of Arnolfo's Tower, the Palazzo Vecchio dominates the Piazza della Signoria, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Florence's past. Originally built in the early 14th century as the seat of the Republic of Florence's government, it has witnessed the city's transformation through the Renaissance and beyond. Its halls and chambers, adorned with lavish artworks and frescoes, tell the stories of the city's powerful leaders, including the Medici family, who were instrumental in shaping Florence into a cradle of the Renaissance Nearby, the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, known simply as the Duomo, dominates the cityscape. Its most striking feature is the massive dome, engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. Completed in 1436, the dome was a feat of engineering, constructed without the support of scaffolding, and remains the largest brick dome ever constructed. The cathedral itself, begun in 1296, is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, with its intricate marble façade reflecting Florence's wealth and artistic prowess during the Renaissance. Leaving the artistic splendors of Florence, we boarded our flight to Munich and then to Timișoara. Our next flight from Munich took us to Timisoara, a city with a vibrant and diverse past. As the plane descended, we anticipated exploring this city known for its role in the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which led to the overthrow of Communism in Romania. Timisoara, with its architectural styles ranging from Baroque to Art Nouveau, reflects its history under Turkish, Austrian, and Hungarian rule. Our journey from the Renaissance wonders of Florence to the medieval charm of San Gimignano and Siena was a captivating immersion into Italy’s rich heritage. Each city, with its unique historical tapestry, from the artistic majesty of the Uffizi Gallery to the architectural splendor of the Tuscan countryside, enriched our understanding and love for Italy’s diverse cultural landscape. This voyage was not just a trip through places, but a timeless journey through history, art, and culinary excellence.

Greeted by the ever-enthusiastic Justus, our guide from Scope Safaris, the day’s escapades began without delay. The immediate transition from urban metropolis to the sprawling expanse of Nairobi National Park was profound. Nairobi, with its metropolitan allure, was soon to be a memory as nature's vast theatre, the Maasai Mara National Reserve, beckoned. At 7.30 sharp, our sturdy safari jeep, brimming with enthusiasm, departed the city, tracing a route into the wild. The ride took us through terrains of intrigue, but none more striking than the Great Rift Valley . A geographical marvel stretching over thousands of miles, this valley is the product of tectonic movements from ages past. We halted at a viewpoint, offering us a panoramic spectacle of this vast land fracture. The raw power of nature was evident here, as the land stretched endlessly, reminding us of the ancient forces that shaped our world. But nature had more in store. As we ventured deeper into Maasai Mara , the vast grasslands spoke of tales as old as time. The afternoon game drive was nothing short of magical. The land, painted in hues of gold and green, was teeming with life. Majestic leopards, with their enigmatic spots, lounged on tree branches, while agile cheetahs stalked the plains. The mighty elephants, with their commanding presence, sauntered past, and buffalos grazed, unperturbed. The lion, king of the Mara, surveyed his kingdom with regal disdain. The sun, in its descent, cast a golden glow over the reserve, creating a spectacle that seemed to blur the lines between reality and dream. As the sky transitioned from gold to a deep orange, and then to twilight blue, we wrapped up our day, bringing with it stories and memories that would last a lifetime. The land seemed to come alive under the soft morning glow, as the vast landscapes were painted in shades of amber and pink. Lions, rulers of these plains, prowled with a majestic ease while birds flitted about, adding a touch of color and melody to the morning. The sight of ostriches, with their long necks and curious eyes, against the backdrop of the rising sun was a sight to behold. And of course, the energetic pumbas (warthogs) darted around, seemingly playing tag with the shadows. Our drive led us to the Mara River , a lifeline for many of the creatures in the reserve. The river’s waters, always moving, always changing, sheltered a surprising number of hippos. These massive creatures, often only visible as dark shapes beneath the water, are surprisingly agile and playful in their aquatic home. An interesting turn in our day was our visit to the Kenya–Tanzania Land Boundary . This is also the border between Kenya's Maasai Mara Reserve and Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. But perhaps, one of the most heartwarming parts of the day was our encounter with the Maasai Tribe . These people, with their rich history, shared stories of their ancestors, their close bond with the land, and their unique customs. Watching the Maasai people in their traditional attire, with their brilliant reds and beaded jewelry, performing their age-old dances, was like stepping back in time. It was a living history lesson, reminding us of the deep roots and rich traditions of this continent. Having soaked in the day's adventures, we made our way back to the lodge. After a flavorful dinner, where we reminisced about the day’s events and the captivating tales of Maasai Mara, it was time to pack our bags. Our next destination awaited, and as the clock struck 11 pm, we were on our way to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta airport, the Mara’s allure still lingering in our minds. 20th June 2023 - From the Wild Plains to Desert Mystique: A Tale of Three African Cities At 4.30 am we boarded our Ethiopian Airlines flight ET309 bound for Addis Abeba. 2 hours later, our plane touched down in the historic city of Addis Abeba , the seat of the African Union and a place teeming with stories from ancient civilizations. The metropolitan vibes of Nairobi gave way to arid expanses, hinting at the desert adventures that awaited us. Right on time, as the clock neared 2 pm, we felt the wheels of our aircraft touching the Namibian soil. We were greeted by the enthusiastic smile of our guide, Sam, from Mercha Booking Agency. A repository of local tales and histories, Sam regaled us with stories about Windhoek's colonial past and Namibia's struggle for independence as we began our transfer to Sesriem. The transition in landscapes was evident as metropolitan structures faded and the raw allure of the Namib Desert took center stage. Hours melted into one another as we traversed the stark yet captivating Namibian terrain. Each bend in the road revealed a new facet of the desert’s beauty. By the time darkness started to veil the land, we found ourselves at the exquisite Le Mirage Hotel in Sesriem. It was more than just a place to rest; it was a fortress in the heart of the desert, reflecting the rich architectural heritage of the region. The day had been long, but the anticipation of Namibian adventures ensured our spirits remained untamed. 21st June 2023 - From Desert Palette to Coastal Canvas As the first faint glimmers of light pierced the horizon, our group, led by our knowledgeable guide Sam, prepped for the day's adventure. By the time the sun fully announced its presence, we were already within the boundaries of Namib Naukluft National Park. The drive within the park offered a canvas of contrasting terrains. A highlight was certainly Dune 45, standing tall and majestic, almost as if keeping a watchful eye over the vast expanse. As we admired its beauty, one couldn’t help but wonder about its distinct orange-red hue. This iconic color of the dunes, especially prevalent in the Namib Desert, stems from the age of the sands combined with the iron content within them. When the iron in the sand reacts with oxygen in the air, it forms iron oxide, giving the grains a reddish appearance, akin to rusting. Additionally, the older the dunes, the deeper their color becomes, as the sands undergo prolonged oxidation over the millennia. This marriage of age and chemistry paints the desert with its remarkable palette. Our anticipation grew as we neared Deadvlei . Upon arrival, we were greeted by an astonishing landscape: ancient, scorched trees, surrounded by towering dunes, painting a picture of resilience in the face of time. The ambitious among us had dreams of ascending the Big Daddy Dune , recognized as the world's most towering dune. We began our ascent of Big Daddy Dune, but the gusty winds quickly convinced us to turn back. With two hours well-spent in this striking setting, we shifted our attention to Sossusvlei . Although it lay parched due to the absence of the rainy season, its barren beauty still captured our imaginations. As we made our way to Swakopmund, we paused at Solitaire . Known not just for its solitude but also for its legendary apple pie, we indulged in this sweet treat, the flavors a delightful reward for our desert traversing. Our travels also took us to the Tropic of Capricorn . The brief stop here was mandatory, giving us a moment to snap photographs with the iconic signpost. The Kuiseb Pass viewpoint further along the way provided another pause, offering panoramic views that took our breaths away. By late afternoon, the cool coastal air of Swakopmund greeted us. We settled into the Atlantic Villa Boutique, our home for the night. After some relaxation, we were drawn to Swakopmund Public Beach. Here, the sun bade us goodbye, casting a golden hue across the waters. Our evening walk showcased Swakopmund's unique blend of African and German heritage, evident in its beautifully preserved German architectural marvels. The towering lighthouse stood as a testament to the city's maritime history. Hunger soon called, and we answered by heading to Swakopmund Brauhaus. Traditional German fare coupled with a Namibian twist made for a delectable dinner, the perfect conclusion to a day brimming with wonder. Resting our heads at the Atlantic Villa Boutique, we drifted off, the memories of the day playing like a movie in our minds, a day of contrasting landscapes, from the arid beauty of the desert to the refreshing allure of the coast. 22nd June 2023 - From Swakopmund's Coastal Wonders to Windhoek's Vibrant Heart As morning's first light began to break, we were already in motion, setting our sights on the famed Sandwich Harbour . Taking the coastal route, we were graced with the stunning views of the beach where the rhythmic dance of the Atlantic's waves told tales of nature's grandeur. Sandwich Harbour, where the majesty of the Namib dunes meets the relentless force of the ocean, awaited us with its distinctive allure. The uniqueness of having breakfast atop these vast dunes, with the endless ocean to one side and a golden expanse on the other, was a memory to be cherished. By 1 pm, we found ourselves back in Swakopmund, but there was no slowing down. The beckoning dunes near the city promised an adrenaline rush like no other - sandboarding . Sliding down the dunes, we felt a mixture of thrill and joy, as the world blurred into a haze of sand and speed. With the afternoon progressing, it was time for another transfer. At 3:30 pm, we left the coastal beauty of Swakopmund behind, heading towards Windhoek's bustling energy. The changing landscapes whispered tales of history and transformation, as the vast plains gradually merged into the bustling heart of the Namibian capital. Our stay for the night was the elegant The Weinberg Windhoek hotel. Perfectly positioned in the city's core, this establishment provided not just luxury but a glimpse into Windhoek's rich past. The city, with its blend of German colonial history and modern-day vibrancy, has countless stories to share. As we settled down for the night, reflections of the day, from Sandwich Harbour's natural splendor to Windhoek's urban pulse, danced in our minds. With every new day came fresh experiences, making this adventure truly unforgettable. 23rd June 2023 - From Windhoek to Seoul The morning sun greeted us as we set out post-breakfast, eager to unearth the historical layers of Windhoek. Leading the list was the iconic Christuskirche , a testament to German architectural prowess in the heart of Namibia. Its neo-Romanesque design and striking stained-glass windows tell a story of bygone eras and influences. Our next stop was the Independence Museum , a modern structure capturing Namibia's turbulent path to freedom. As we wandered through its corridors, each exhibit unveiled moments of bravery, struggle, and eventual triumph. But it wasn't just the contents inside; the building itself, colloquially known as "The Coffee Machine", offered a panoramic view of the city from its apex. Standing there, Windhoek's intricate blend of history and modernity unfolded beneath us. However, the day wasn't just about Windhoek's history. By 2:30 pm, we found ourselves aboard Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET834, soaring towards Addis Abeba. The evening hues greeted us as we touched down in Ethiopia at 9:20 pm. With a brief layover of 1 hour and 30 minutes at Addis Abeba airport, it was a swift transition before we were airborne again on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET672, setting our compass towards the East, to Seoul. 24th June 2023 - Seoul: A Fresh Chapter in our Adventure As Ethiopian Airlines's Boeing 787-8 touched down in Seoul, an hour behind schedule, the bustling city of Seoul stood ready to welcome us. It was 5 pm, and with every passing moment, the city's vibrant pulse became evident. A quick taxi ride brought us closer to the heart of this metropolis. Before settling down, we decided to breathe in some of Seoul's greenery at Dosan Park . This urban oasis, amidst the city's concrete expanse, offered solace and a moment to stretch our legs after the long flight. The evening lights, combined with the soft rustling of leaves, created an ambiance of peace in the midst of urban hustle. Our resting place for the night was the Royal Hotel Seoul. Nestled in the center of Seoul, this hotel promised a blend of Korean hospitality with modern comforts, making it a perfect choice for our upcoming days in this vibrant city. As the night deepened, thoughts of the past two days, from Windhoek's historic corners to Seoul's urban allure, set the tone for the adventures that awaited. 25th June 2023 - Seoul: Stepping Through Time in a Modern Metropolis With the morning sun illuminating the streets, we set out to experience the multifaceted allure of Seoul. Our first destination was Myeongdong Cathedral , a beacon of Gothic architecture amidst the city's skyscrapers. This century-old structure stands not just as a place of worship, but also as a silent witness to Korea's turbulent history, particularly the democratization movements. Our historical odyssey continued at Deoksugung Palace . As we wandered through its stone pathways, the distinct blend of traditional Korean and Western architecture told tales of a kingdom navigating the winds of change. The changing of the guard ceremony, a vibrant spectacle, transported us back to the Joseon era, a time when monarchs and courtiers treaded these very grounds. A short walk led us to the City Hall , a juxtaposition of old and new. While the modern structure symbolized Seoul's rapid growth, the old building, now a library, bore testament to its rich past and the determination of its people. Next on our list was Gyeongbokgung Palace , the grandest of Seoul's five palaces. The expansive grounds, intricate wooden structures, and tranquil ponds reflected the opulence and artistry of the Joseon Dynasty. We were fortunate to witness a traditional performance, where rhythmic beats and vibrant costumes brought history to life. Bukchon Hanok Village awaited us next, a treasure trove of traditional Korean houses, known as hanoks. Wandering these alleys, we felt time slow as the modern city seemed to fade, replaced by the whispers of bygone eras. But Seoul is not just about history. As evening approached, we found ourselves at Lotte World Mall, a testament to the city's contemporary vigor. Here, shopping, dining, and entertainment options seemed endless, each floor promising new delights. Our day culminated at the N Seoul Tower . Perched atop Namsan Mountain, the panoramic views of the city's glittering expanse left us in awe. As lights shimmered below, we realized the unique blend of tradition and modernity that is Seoul. Before midnight we returned to our hotel. 26th June 2023 - Seoul - Hong Kong Our day began with a transfer to the airport. 2 hours later we boarded Cathay Pacific flight CX417, bound for the global city of Hong Kong. As we disembarked at 1 pm, the humid air of this port city greeted us. Without delay, we hailed a taxi that navigated the lively streets towards Victoria Peak. Ascending the winding road, we reached the summit where a panoramic view of Hong Kong's iconic skyline awaited, with the harbor stretching endlessly beyond. It's a sight that encapsulates the city's pulsating energy and its position as a bridge between the East and the West. Next, our journey took us to the vibrant heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. This bustling hub, with its fusion of cultures and dizzying array of shops, eateries, and historical sites, provided a taste of Hong Kong's urban allure. Time, however, was of the essence, and soon we found ourselves heading back to the airport. Come evening, we boarded Qantas flight QF128 bound for Sydney. As the aircraft soared, we bid goodbye to Asia, looking forward to the Land Down Under. 27th June 2023 - From Sydney's Sunrise to Queenstown's Enchantment As the aircraft touched Australian soil, it was 7 am, and the early morning light shone over Botany Bay. Our brief layover of 2 hours and 30 minutes was a blur, filled with the anticipation of the next leg of our adventure. Boarding Qantas flight QF121, we left Australia's shores behind, heading towards the picturesque town of Queenstown in New Zealand, also known as Aotearoa. Touching down at 3 pm, the cool air and breathtaking landscapes instantly captivated our senses. A swift taxi ride transported us closer to the natural beauty that is synonymous with Queenstown. We gravitated towards Queenstown Beach, its shores lapped by the pristine waters of Lake Wakatipu. As the sun began its descent, the lake reflected hues of purple and silver, creating a tranquil ambiance. Our evening unfolded in Queenstown's city center. The town, with its alpine architecture and vibrant streets, beckoned us to explore every nook and cranny. From local crafts to delectable eateries, Queenstown's heart pulsed with life. The day concluded at Queenstown Village Apartments, our accomodation for the night. As we relaxed, the memories of two days, spanning three vibrant cities, played out, hinting at the wonders yet to come. 28th June 2023 - Navigating the Majesty of Milford Sound Our day sprang to life early, with a 7.45 am bus pick-up, signaling the start of our expedition to the enchanting Milford Sound . As the bus was moving and the landscape shifted, we found ourselves traversing a diverse tableau of terrains. The route to Milford Sound, a staggering four-hour drive from Queenstown, unfurled like pages from an epic tale. Fiordland National Park , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, beckoned us with its three distinctive stops. Each pause was an ode to nature's brilliance, from verdant rainforests and glistening waterfalls to dramatic cliffs, and each offered a fresh lens to view this sprawling conservation wonderland. Milford Sound , often dubbed as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World', is not actually a sound but a fiord. This geographical marvel, carved by glaciers during the ice ages, unveiled its magic as we cruised its waters. Towering peaks stood sentinel, with Mitre Peak asserting its dominance, while cascading waterfalls like Stirling and Bowen Falls added to the auditory landscape with their cascading rhythms. The two-hour voyage on the tranquil waters of Milford Sound provided captivating narratives of Maori legends and the history of this untouched piece of paradise. It felt as if time stood still, and the world was in harmonic resonance with the surroundings. As evening cast its amber light, we began our return to Queenstown. The drive back was a time of reflection, each of us replaying the moments when nature, in all its grandeur, showcased a performance that left an indelible mark on our hearts. By 8.30 pm, the familiar sights of Queenstown welcomed us back. Exhausted but elated, we retreated for the night, knowing full well that days like these are rare gems in the mosaic of life's adventures. 29th June 2023 - The longest day of our life - Navigating Time Zones Morning light in Queenstown ushered in the beginnings of a day that would, quite literally, extend its boundaries. A prompt 10.30 am departure on Air New Zealand flight NZ612 spirited us away to Auckland, New Zealand's most populous city, by 12.30 pm. From the airport, a quick taxi dash allowed us to immerse ourselves in the urban vibe of downtown Auckland . However, as nature decided to shower us with unexpected rain, we sought refuge and a hearty meal in a cozy Auckland restaurant. With spirits undeterred and bellies full, we explored the " All Blacks Experience ". A deep dive into the passion and pride of New Zealand's iconic rugby team, this experience made us feel the pulse and fervor of Kiwi rugby. Post our rugby immersion, Auckland continued to enthrall with the expansive Auckland Domain , the city's oldest park, followed by the verdant sprawl of Albert Park , a favorite amongst both locals and tourists. But time, especially on a day as expansive as this one, waits for no one. Soon, we were heading back to the airport to board our Air New Zealand overnight flight NZ10 to Honolulu. Here's where our day took an intriguing turn. Due to the quirks of international date lines, we arrived in Honolulu at 9 am on the same day we left New Zealand. Honolulu welcomed us with an embrace of sunny warmth. After quickly renting a car on TURO, we set out on an adventurous exploration of the island's notable spots. The drive itself was scenic, with the landscapes shifting from urban sprawls to lush greenery. Our first stop was the Hawaii Kai Lookout , a spot that boasts panoramic vistas of the turquoise waters meeting the horizon. Just a short drive away was the Lanai Lookout , another captivating viewpoint. Here, the dramatic rock formations jutted out into the ocean, creating a mesmerizing contrast against the cerulean waves. Next, we decided to get a closer feel of the ocean at Kailua Beach . The powdery sand beneath our feet and the slightly tangy scent of salt in the air made for a refreshing experience. Every wave that crashed ashore seemed to tell a story, and as the waters lapped at our feet, the relaxation was immediate. From the beach, we drove to the Nu'uanu Pali Lookout , a place that resonates with historical significance. The strong winds at the lookout seemed to carry tales of ancient Hawaiian battles, and standing there, one could almost hear the faint chants of warriors from the past. Our day's itinerary also included a visit to Pearl Harbor , a significant historical site where, on December 7, 1941, a surprise military attack by the Japanese led the United States to enter World War II. While the site's global importance is well understood, being there in person added a depth of emotion that is hard to articulate. The somber environment serves as a poignant reminder of the lives lost and the pivotal moments in history that unfolded there. Unfortunately, we couldn't visit the USS Arizona due to a shorter boat schedule that day, but the weight of history and respect for those who perished was deeply felt. As the sun began its descent, casting golden reflections on the water, we made our way to Waikiki Beach . The iconic beach, with its soft sands and azure waters, was the perfect place to unwind. The rhythmic sound of the waves and distant melodies of Hawaiian songs created a tranquil atmosphere. But soon, it was time to head back to the airport. The drive back was swift, and by 8.20 pm, we were aboard our Southwest flight WN1487, which touched down in Kahului, Maui at 8.50 pm. The island of Maui greeted us with its characteristic tropical allure. We secured another car rental and drove to our accommodation for the night, the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali. As we checked into our rooms and looked out at the moonlit ocean, a profound realization settled in: While each day has its end, the memories crafted remain eternal. 30th June 2023 - MAUI: From Tranquil Shores to Historic Coastlines Our day on the enchanting island of Maui began a bit later than we initially projected. The allure of a comfortable bed at the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali proved too tempting, and so our morning was embraced by a few more hours of restful sleep. By 11 am, refreshed and eager, we decided to pivot from our original plan of traversing the Road to Hana, setting our sights on some of Maui's coastal treasures instead. Our first destination was Po‘olenalena Beach . As we approached, the sight of the shimmering blue waters flanked by golden sands greeted us, and it was instantly clear why this spot is cherished by both locals and tourists. After a soothing time there, we continued to Makena Beach . Often referred to as "Big Beach" due to its vast expanse, Makena allowed us to stretch out and absorb the warm sun while the sound of waves provided a tranquil backdrop. Time seemed to fly, and soon it was time to honor our reservation at Waiʻānapanapa State Park . Driving there, the landscapes were a feast for the eyes, with the vast Pacific Ocean on one side and the lush greenery of Maui on the other. Waiʻānapanapa is a place of deep cultural and historical significance for Hawaiians. Stepping into the park, we were met with striking black sand beaches, sea caves, and even ancient temples. There's an old Hawaiian legend associated with the freshwater caves in the park, telling a tale of love, betrayal, and a vengeful spirit. As we explored, the park's history and natural beauty unfolded in front of us, making it a truly captivating experience. As evening approached, our stomachs reminded us of the importance of a hearty meal after a day filled with exploration. Merriman's Kapalua was our chosen spot for the night. As we sat down for our 8.30 pm reservation, the restaurant's ambient lighting and the faint sound of waves in the distance created a cozy atmosphere. The menu was an array of delightful dishes, showcasing the best of Hawaiian cuisine. Every bite was a testament to the island's rich culinary heritage and the chef's expertise. Driving back to the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali, the day's experiences replayed in our minds. Maui had once again showcased its unmatched allure, blending nature, history, and gastronomy into a perfect day that will be remembered fondly for years to come. 1st July 2023 - MAUI Maui's magnetic allure awakened us bright and early, with the golden hour's first rays illuminating the sands of Kaanapali Beach. This stretch of paradise, renowned for its shimmering blue waters, captivated us instantly. We indulged in a leisurely stroll, feeling the warm sand beneath our feet and listening to the rhythmic dance of the waves. With the island beckoning, we aimed to conquer the famed Road to Hana . This legendary route is more about the trip than the destination. The winding roads framed by lush tropical rainforest, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic sea cliffs make it an unparalleled experience. However, our plans hit a slight snag at Manawainui Gulch . An unforeseen road closure meant we couldn't traverse the entire stretch as initially intended. While momentarily disappointed, Maui had plenty of wonders waiting for us. Pivoting from our initial plan, Ho'okipa Beach Park was our next stop. Renowned as a windsurfing Mecca, the beach has another delightful secret: its frequent turtle visitors. We watched in awe as these ancient mariners made their way to the shoreline, their slow and graceful maneuvers contrasting with the energetic surfers dancing on the waves. Our coastal odyssey further unfolded as we approached Baldwin Beach . This stretch of sand and sea, untouched by the hands of commercialism, stood out as an oasis of calm. The turquoise waves lapped the shores in a rhythmic pattern, each ebb and flow revealing the golden sands beneath. Palm trees swayed at the periphery, casting fleeting shadows that danced upon the ground. From Baldwin, our journey took us to the crescent-shaped embrace of Kapalua Bay . Recognized often for its protected waters, Kapalua is a snorkeler's dream. As we ventured beneath the surface, an underwater spectacle revealed itself. Vivid coral structures, shaped by time and tide, housed an array of marine life. Rainbow-colored fish darted between the corals, while the occasional sea turtle glided past, exuding an age-old wisdom in its gaze. For the sunset, we found ourselves at Wailea Beach . Unlike its counterparts, Wailea had a certain sophistication to it. Luxury resorts lined the backdrop, but the beach itself retained its natural allure. The waters here were clearer, almost crystalline, offering reflections of the azure sky above. As we waded in, the cool embrace of the ocean was irresistible, tempting even the most reluctant among us to dive in and savor the aquatic wonders that lay beneath. Evening shadows began to form, signaling our next adventure: the Grand Wailea Lū‘au Show at the opulent Waldorf Astoria resort. This was no ordinary performance. It was a doorway into Hawaii's soul. We were treated to enthralling hula performances, tales of Polynesian voyagers, and traditional chants. There was also a sumptuous feast, where dishes like kalua pork, lomi salmon, and haupia tantalized our taste buds. But Maui wasn’t done impressing us. Again. With the Lū‘au's rhythms still echoing, we drove to the celestial observatory that is Haleakalā Crater. The ascent was an adventure in itself, with the temperature dropping noticeably. Reaching the summit, at around 3000m, we were greeted by an awe-inspiring tableau: a sky bursting with stars, constellations, and the shimmering belt of the Milky Way. The sheer vastness of the universe was on full display, making us feel both insignificant and profoundly connected. The clock's hands moved swiftly, and soon it was time to retreat to our cozy quarters at the hotel. As we drifted to sleep, the realization set in: in Maui, every moment, every sight, every sound is a testament to nature's boundless beauty and the rich tapestry of Polynesian culture. 2nd July 2023 - Last day in Maui As the first sunrays painted Maui’s landscapes, we bade goodbye to our beloved Aston Mahana at Kaanapali. On the docket was a visit to the acclaimed Hamoa Beach . Though the sunrise atop Haleakala eluded us, the spirit of exploration remained undeterred. Maui, with its vastness and splendor, still held many cards close to its chest. Hamoa Beach awaited us with a promise of unparalleled beauty. Historians often harken back to the days when James Michener, the renowned American author, showered praises upon this beach, calling it the Pacific's crown jewel. The emerald vegetation seemed to embrace the crescent bay, which shimmered in the morning light. A dive into the annals of time would reveal the stories of ancient Polynesian navigators who perhaps anchored at this very spot, marvelling at its untouched glory. Adjacent to Hamoa lay the shores of Koki Beach . More than just its vermilion sands and azure waters, Koki carried tales of the past. Hawaiian legends whisper of ancient battles, where the valor of warriors clashed with the might of the seas. Some say the distinctive red hue of Koki's sands remembers those brave souls. However, the day had one more spectacle in store. Haleakalā beckoned once again, this time for a date with the setting sun. While the mountaintop teemed with eager sunset watchers, making it a challenge to reach the summit, we carved out our own niche further down its expansive slopes. There, we bore witness to a spectacle of colors, as the sun bade adieu, its golden tendrils caressing the island's silhouette. But as dusk settled on Maui, another task awaited. With a flight to catch, we made our way to the airport. United Airlines UA1639 was our flight for the night, set to depart at 10:45 pm. The hustle of check-ins and boarding soon gave way to the tranquil hum of the plane's engines. As Maui receded below, its twinkling lights seemed to wave a gentle farewell. 3rd July 2023 - Around San Francisco The City by the Bay greeted us as our plane touched down at 6 am. As we made our way out, the aroma of the bay mingled with the urban vibe of San Francisco. Without missing a beat, we hailed a taxi and made our way to the Nikko Hotel San Francisco, a luxurious sanctuary located in the heart of the city. After the rigors of travel, we gave in to the allure of a plush bed, catching a brief respite till 10 am. With a sense of renewal, we opted for four wheels, setting our course for Stanford University . Here, red-tiled roofs juxtapose against the verdant green, encapsulating the essence of Californian academia. At Stanford, legacies of innovation and forward-thinking go hand in hand. The university has been a cradle for countless innovations and has nurtured minds that have shaped the tech world. Roaming its halls and gardens, it's hard not to feel inspired, thinking of the thinkers and visionaries who once walked the same path. No visit to the Bay Area would be complete without paying homage to the tech giants. Thus, our next halt was Apple Park in Cupertino . Shaped like a spaceship and encased in the green embrace of nature, Apple Park isn't just a headquarters; it's a testament to the vision of Steve Jobs. It marries architectural marvel with sustainable solutions. Yet, San Francisco's allure isn't confined to its urban expanses and tech giants. Nature's splendor beckoned as we drove to Big Sur National Park. Towering cliffs, azure seas, and verdant canopies create a visual symphony here. The park, with its pristine wilderness, has been an inspiration to many a poet and artist. Our drive also took us to the iconic Bixby Creek Bridge . This architectural marvel spans across the cliffs, bridging the rugged coastlines with graceful arches. Each viewpoint we encountered on our drive seemed like a canvas, each more entrancing than the last. As evening descended, the quaint town of Carmel by the Sea welcomed us. Whitewashed cottages, art galleries, and boutique shops make this place a delightful mosaic of culture and history. Our gastronomic cravings led us to a local restaurant, where the flavors of the coast tantalized our taste buds. The clock was relentless, and soon it was time to drive back. The road, lit by the moon and stars, brought us back to our hotel. As we walked into our rooms, memories of the day, both man-made and natural, danced in our minds. And just like that, amidst the silhouettes of skyscrapers and the lullabies of the ocean, another day in our travel diary came to a close. 4th July 2023 - Celebrating Freedom in the Heart of San Francisco Morning in San Francisco on the Fourth of July is a unique blend of the city's historic ambiance with a festive mood in the air. We began our day with a breakfast that can only be described as authentically San Franciscan, in a bustling downtown cafeteria. Come noon, the salty tang of the bay called out as we boarded our boat to Alcatraz Island . For those unaware, Alcatraz is not just an island; it's a testament to a tumultuous chapter in American history. The former penitentiary stands as a silent observer to tales of infamous inmates, audacious escape attempts, and stories that blur the line between fact and legend. While walking its corridors, one can almost hear the whispers of past events that shaped its lore. As we navigated the historic corridors of Alcatraz, a serendipitous encounter awaited us. William Baker, a former inmate of this very penitentiary, was present, offering insights from his time behind these walls. It's not every day that one gets to hear firsthand accounts from someone who once called this infamous prison home. Baker was graciously signing autographs in the shop, creating a tangible connection to the island's storied past for all who met him. This personal interaction added an unexpected depth to our Alcatraz experience, reminding us of the human stories interwoven with its history. Our sea adventure was complemented by a walk along Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf . Here, the spirited chatter of sea lions, aromatic seafood stalls, and the panoramic view of the bay forms a lively tableau. History and commerce coexist, with tales of old sailors and merchants blending seamlessly with the vibrant stalls and eateries of today. Next, we found ourselves amidst the hustle and bustle of Union Square , a plaza pulsating with life. As a historic gathering point, it has witnessed various public rallies, celebrations, and even the occasional military parade. Today, it stands as a shopping and cultural epicenter, with theaters, art displays, and a melange of visitors. Lombard Street awaited us next with its signature twists and turns. Often referred to as the "most crooked street in the world", it's a visual treat with its sharp curves, verdant landscaping, and beautiful houses. As the sky donned its twilight attire, anticipation built up for the main event: the 4th of July fireworks . San Francisco's skyline was soon alight with vibrant bursts of color, each explosion resonating with the spirit of freedom and celebration. After the visual spectacle, a nocturnal visit to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge seemed fitting. Bathed in a radiant glow, the bridge stood tall and magnificent, a symbol of human tenacity and architectural genius. Returning to our abode, the Nikko Hotel, the memories of a day steeped in history, festivity, and celebration gently lulled us to sleep. San Francisco, with its blend of the past and present, provided the perfect backdrop for commemorating Independence Day. 5th July 2023 - San Francisco - Los Angeles The day began with an urban farewell, leaving behind the iconic bridges and misty bay of San Francisco. Taking flight with Alaska Airlines flight AS3457 at 12:15 pm, the aerial view of California's coastline had us reflecting on our adventures. Landing in Los Angeles, we had a four-hour layover. Awaiting us next was the overnight flight to a different continent. At 5 pm, LATAM flight LA603 took of and we set our course to Santiago de Chile. With every passing nautical mile, the promise of a new cultural experience loomed closer. 6th July 2023 - SANTIAGO - CALAMA - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA Santiago welcomed us bright and early at 7 am. The Andes Mountains, towering and majestic, framed the city, hinting at the adventures to come. A brief 2-hour 30-minutes layover allowed us to stretch our legs and prepare for our next flight. By 9:30 am, aboard LATAM LA144 flight, we soared over the diverse landscapes of Chile, heading northward to Calama. The changing terrains below gave a quick geography lesson, from fertile valleys to arid plains. Calama's embrace at 11:45 am was warm and dusty. The city, often seen as the gateway to the Atacama Desert , offers its own rich tapestry of histories, primarily its mining heritage. But for us, Calama was a brief waypoint. Awaiting our arrival was a transfer to the enchanting San Pedro de Atacama. San Pedro de Atacama , often described as an oasis town, breaks the monotonous tan of the desert with its verdant charm. Upon reaching, a two-hour rest at Hotel Cumbres San Pedro de Atacama reenergized us, preparing us for the lunar landscapes that awaited. By 3:30 pm, we found ourselves amidst the Valle de la Luna , a place aptly named for its otherworldly terrains. The Duna Mayor's expansive sand dunes, the curious formations of Tres Marias, the bowl-like expanse of Anfiteatro, all painted a picture of a land untouched by time. As the day neared its end, we positioned ourselves at a vantage point where the sunset's radiant glow cast the mighty Licancabur volcano in a brilliant shade of crimson. As the sun dipped, casting elongated shadows across the desert, we made our way back, only to prepare for another celestial show. At 8 pm, a stargazing tour unveiled the mysteries of the cosmos. The Atacama, with its clear, pollution-free skies, offers some of the best stargazing in the world. Stars, planets, and distant galaxies played hide and seek, reminding us of our tiny existence in the vast universe. Finally, as 10 pm approached, it was time to retire, allowing the desert's nocturnal symphony to serenade us into sleep at Hotel Cumbres San Pedro de Atacama. Another day, another set of memories etched forever in our hearts. 7th July 2023 - Immersion into the Heart of Atacama Starting at the break of day, our expedition into San Pedro de Atacama’s natural wonders began at a rather bracing 5 am. We boarded our private transfer and made our way to El Tatio Geysers , one of the highest-elevation geyser fields in the world, sitting at an impressive altitude of 4,320 meters (14,173 feet) above sea level. At this soaring elevation, the air was not only thin but also bitingly cold and dry, with temperatures plunging to -12°C. The geysers, with their plumes of steam rising into the crisp morning, created a surreal landscape that seemed to belong to another planet. With over 80 active geysers, El Tatio is a testimony to the geothermal wonders hidden beneath the Earth’s surface. The indigenous Atacameño people have tales about these geysers, often alluding to their mythical properties and the spirits they believed inhabited these lands. After the unforgettable sight of the geysers, we returned to the hotel around 9 am, just in time to savor a warm breakfast and recharge for the next leg of our expedition. Post breakfast, by 12:30 pm, we set out to explore the marvels of Laguna Cejar and Piedra . Floating effortlessly in Laguna Cejar, with its salt concentration close to that of the Dead Sea, was an experience hard to put into words. Surrounded by salt flats and the Andes in the distance, it was a reminder of nature’s vast contrasts and peculiarities. Our next stop was Valle del Arcoíris or the Rainbow Valley. Named aptly for its varied-colored hills and cliffs - reds, purples, greens, and whites - the valley is a geologist’s dream, showing eons of sedimentary history in a beautiful display. Then, we found ourselves wandering among the ancient petroglyphs , the rock art left behind by pre-Columbian cultures. These engravings, a testament to a bygone era, hint at the beliefs, stories, and daily life of the ancient Atacameño people. As the day waned, we positioned ourselves for the sunset. The sun, as it lowered, cast elongated shadows over the Atacama, turning the landscape into a canvass of gold, burnt orange, and deep red. Finally, as the stars began to dot the expansive desert sky, we made our way back to the hotel, with our hearts full from the day’s adventures. 8th July 2023 - Atacama - Santiago Waking up in the heart of the Atacama Desert is, in itself, an experience to treasure. This morning, we set out early, at 6:30 am, bound for Piedras Rojas . The crimson landscapes of Piedras Rojas, an aptly named "Red Stones" site, evoke images of Martian terrains – a vivid reminder of the diverse geographical wonder our Earth houses. Next, we ventured to the awe-inspiring Lagunas Altiplanicas, specifically Miscanti & Meñiques . These high-altitude lagoons, sitting elegantly amid the Andean plateau, offered arresting visuals: cerulean waters contrasting sharply against the ash-colored volcanic backdrops. The Salar de Atacama , a vast salt flat, was our next stop. This is one of the largest and most captivating salt flats in the world. With its crystalline formations and the occasional vicuña roaming about, it looked like a page out of a surreal storybook. As avid travelers and geography enthusiasts, we were thrilled to cross the Tropic of Capricorn again, having first encountered it in Namibia. The invisible line that plays such a significant role in Earth's solar relationship was marked here, and it was a reminder of the vast distances we'd traversed. Our exploration of the Atacama's saline wonders culminated at Lagunas Chaxas . A haven for the charming flamingos, this lagoon presented nature's dance in the form of these pink-hued birds skimming the waters for their feed. The day, packed with nature's spectacles, concluded as we returned to our hotel around 4 pm, allowing for a brief moment of reflection and relaxation. By 5 pm, we began our transfer to the airport, mentally bidding goodbye to the Atacama’s arid allure. As our LATAM flight LA373 took off at 8 pm, the twinkling lights of Calama gave way to the expansive night sky. Upon touching down in Santiago, the change was immediate. The desert's profound silence was replaced by Santiago's pulsating heartbeat. A taxi whisked us away to our resting place for the night, the Mercure Santiago Centro Hotel. Tucked comfortably into our beds, we looked forward to exploring Chile's vibrant capital in the days to come. 9th July 2023 - A Santiago Farewell Waking up in Santiago, we were greeted by the morning sun illuminating the city's blend of modern urbanization and rich history. After a hearty breakfast, we opted for a brief walking tour of the city before our next flight. The Plaza de Armas was our first stop, a bustling square that stands as a testament to pivotal moments in Chilean history. Surrounded by colonial-era structures, it felt as if we were stepping back in time. A short distance away, the grandeur of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago de Chile awaited. Entering its hallowed halls, we encountered an unexpected sight: soldiers commemorating Chilean Flag Day, their presence adding depth to our appreciation of the country's vibrant culture. Time, however, was not on our side. With a heavy heart, we bid adieu to Santiago and headed to the airport. By 3 pm, we were aboard Avianca flight AV116, soaring towards Bogotá. As we left the Andes behind, we braced ourselves for the next chapter of our expedition. After a six-hour flight, Bogotá's El Dorado airport welcomed us with its unique energy. Our layover, although brief, provided a fleeting glimpse of the Colombian capital. But soon, it was time for our onward journey. Settling into our seats on Avianca flight AV120, we embarked on our overnight voyage to London Heathrow. 10th July 2023 - Back in Europe Upon our 3:30 pm arrival in London, we were immediately enveloped by the distinct British atmosphere. The city's famed underground system whisked us away to our luxurious retreat: The Gantry London, Curio Collection By Hilton. London's iconic landmarks beckoned, a siren's call impossible to ignore. Once our dinner plates were cleared, revealing dishes that tasted as delightful as they looked, the streets of London became our stage. Our first destination, the majestic Palace of Westminster and the towering Big Ben , stood as a testament to Britain's age-old history and architectural prowess. The gothic details, ornate spires, and gilded accents of the buildings illuminated under the city lights, providing a contrast against the night sky. Not too far from this historic marvel, the London Eye offered a different experience. Aboard its glass capsules, we were elevated to a vantage point that showcased London in all its sprawling splendor. The Thames shimmered below, while the city's mix of ancient and modern structures stretched out in every direction. As the evening wore on, we found ourselves captivated by Piccadilly Circus . The large LED displays painted the area in vibrant colors, reflecting off the polished surfaces and creating a lively atmosphere. The thrum of activity, from buskers playing lively tunes to locals and tourists weaving through the streets, was a sensory delight. Despite the thrill of exploration, fatigue eventually set in. We slowly ambled back to our hotel, feet weary but spirits high. As we settled into the plush comforts of our room at The Gantry London, Curio Collection By Hilton, memories of the evening replayed in our minds. From the historic cobblestones of Santiago to the illuminated avenues of London, we reflected on the incredible tapestry of experiences stitched together in a matter of days. 11th July 2023 - Tennis Thrills and London's Timeless Allure London – a city where history melds seamlessly with the hustle of modern life. Today, our experience was a beautiful blend of age-old British traditions and the contemporary thrill of sports. Rising from the plush comforts of the hotel, we began our day on a relaxed note. Exiting the station, we were immediately swept up in the festive atmosphere, with fans showcasing their enthusiasm in delightful, spirited ways. The No. 1 Court beckoned, its iconic turf ready to witness another day of intense tennis rivalry. The first face-off was a gripping Ladies' Singles match, with M. While the contest started balanced, Sinner’s prowess became evident as he clinched a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win, much to the excitement of the crowd. Between these thrilling matches, indulging in Wimbledon's signature strawberries and cream was an absolute delight. With the echoes of applause still ringing in our ears, we directed our steps to Covent Garden. The vibrant marketplace, enriched with history, presented the perfect setting for our evening meal, complete with bustling crowds and street performances. Our post-dinner jaunt took us to Buckingham Palace, where the grandeur of the British monarchy lay in full display. The palace's opulence, coupled with its sentinel guards, offered a captivating sight in the twilight. Not far away, Trafalgar Square buzzed with activity. Between the historic statues and the lively crowds, the square felt like a living portrait of London's rich tapestry. As the city lights began to twinkle, we retraced our steps back to the hotel, minds abuzz with the day's experiences. From sports to sights, our London escapade was turning out to be an affair to remember. 12th July 2023 - Navigating London's Historic Corners Awaking amidst the bustling metropolis of London, we charted out a day dedicated to traversing the city's historic landmarks. This architectural marvel, with its intricate mosaics and hallowed halls, conveyed tales from epochs gone by, evoking reverence at every corner. Just a stone’s throw away, Regent Street with its grand architecture and illustrious history offered a more upscale shopping experience, adding a touch of luxury to our adventure. Though eager to ascend The Shard and gaze upon London from its soaring heights, our spirits dampened a bit as the view platform had shut its doors for maintenance. Nonetheless, London, with its inexhaustible wonders, had other plans for us. We found ourselves by the majestic Tower Bridge , its stone towers and panoramic walkways holding countless stories of the River Thames below. As dusk set in, the vibrancy of Covent Garden beckoned. Known for its rich history and bustling marketplace, it offered the perfect backdrop for our dinner. With the day winding to a close, we returned to our hotel. 13th July 2023 - Full Circle - Globe-Trotters' Homeward Bound The final day of our whirlwind tour dawned bright and early. Over time, the ocean's waves carved out these giants, and standing before them, one truly feels the weight of eons gone by. Not far from the Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge presented another spectacle. Named after the ship Loch Ard, which tragically wrecked here in the late 1800s, the gorge tells a tale of survival and loss. Further along, The Razorback rock formation showcased nature's artistic flair. Carved by the elements, its jagged edges contrasted sharply with the cerulean waters below. The evening was yet young, and Melbourne had more stories to share. A short walk led us to the Evan Walker Bridge , which, with its cascading lights, became a shimmering pathway over the Yarra River. The river itself, illuminated by city lights, transformed into a sparkling tapestry under the night sky. Exhausted yet fulfilled, we returned to the hotel, eager to dream of the landscapes we had traversed and the marvels that the morrow would bring. 1st December 2022 - Day 8: From Urban Marvels to Island Wonders: Melbourne and Phillip Island Despite being miles away from our homeland, waking up in Melbourne on Romania's National Day added a unique sentiment to our journey. While we celebrated this special day in Australia, it was a lovely reminder of the world's vastness and the ties that bind us to our roots, no matter where we roam. Our day commenced at Fitzroy Gardens. A short walk from the gardens led us to the magnificent State Library Victoria . Established in the mid-19th century, this library, with its ornate architecture and majestic reading room, is a repository of knowledge and history. For a moment, surrounded by ancient tomes and scripts, we felt connected to scholars from centuries gone by. The afternoon heralded another adventure as our bus arrived at 1:45 pm for the much-anticipated Phillip Island tour. Our first stop was the Koala Conservation Reserve . Here, amidst eucalyptus trees, we caught sight of Australia's iconic marsupials. Observing koalas in their natural habitat, lazily munching on leaves or dozing in the treetops, was indeed a memorable experience. Our journey continued to Pyramid Rock Lookout. This distinctive rock formation, shaped over time by the relentless waves, stood as a sentinel against the vast ocean backdrop, symbolizing nature's eternal dance of creation and erosion. Soon, we found ourselves at The Nobbies View Point . Overlooking Seal Rocks, this vantage point offered panoramic views of the rugged coastline and the restless waters that shape it. As evening approached, we were in for a magical spectacle at the Penguin Parade . As the sun set, Little Penguins, the world's smallest penguin species, waddled ashore in groups. Their synchronized march from the sea to their sand dune burrows was a sight to behold, a testament to nature's wondrous cycles. With stars adorning the night sky, we made our way back to Melbourne, reaching our accommodation close to midnight. As we drifted into slumber, images of koalas, rocky shores, and parading penguins danced in our dreams, sealing yet another unforgettable day in our Australian chronicles. 2nd December 2022 - Day 9: From the Aussie Shores to the Lion City's Glitz With a heavy heart, we bid adieu to Melbourne. Its intricate tapestry of history, nature, and urban life had left an indelible mark on our souls. As our Jetstar flight JQ7 soared high, the landscape beneath gradually morphed from the vast Australian expanse to the glistening waters of Southeast Asia. Touching down in Singapore at 8.30 pm, the shift in ambiance was instantaneous. From the vast, sprawling spaces of Australia to the neon-lit, vertical cityscape of Singapore, the change was both striking and invigorating. Changi Airport, often hailed as one of the best in the world, welcomed us back with its signature blend of efficiency and aesthetics. From verdant indoor gardens to futuristic installations, the airport itself felt like a microcosm of the city-state. Our journey from the airport was swift, courtesy of a convenient taxi service. As we made our way through the city, Singapore's skyline, punctuated with architectural wonders and lit by a million lights, unfolded before us. Our lodgings for the night were at the iconic Marina Bay Sands. Even before reaching it, the hotel's distinctive three towers, connected by the famous SkyPark, were visible from a distance, standing as sentinels against the city's skyline. Checking into Marina Bay Sands is not just about luxury; it's an experience in itself. Historically, the Marina Bay area transformed from being a quiet body of water at the entrance of the Singapore River to one of the world's most spectacular urban landscapes. And right at its heart, the Marina Bay Sands stands as a testament to Singapore's vision and ambition. Exhausted from the day's journey, we retired to our rooms, excited about exploring this modern marvel and the city beyond in the coming days. The fusion of cultures, the promise of culinary delights, and the mix of tradition with futuristic innovation in Singapore awaited us, and we were eager to plunge into the next chapter of our adventure. 3rd December 2022 - Day 10: Diving Deep into the Lion City's Heartbeat Awakening in the heart of Singapore, the day promised exploration and indulgence. Our first stop was Orchard Road , a boulevard synonymous with retail luxury. With a history stretching back to the 1830s, this once fruit orchard and nutmeg plantation transformed over the decades into a shopping paradise. Packed with malls, boutiques, and cafes, each establishment told stories of global luxury brands meeting local tastes. We lost track of time wandering from one store to the next, each offering its own allure. By midday, the call of Marina Bay Sands' famed infinity pool was irresistible. Suspended high above the city, this architectural marvel offers not just a refreshing dip but also unparalleled views of Singapore's skyline. Floating there, it felt like being on the edge of the world, with the city's panorama unfolding beneath. Refreshed and reinvigorated, our next adventure was the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade . This 3.5 km walkway, flanked by water and modern architectural wonders, is a testament to Singapore's vision of harmonizing urban development with leisure spaces. The gentle ripples of water alongside provided a calming counterpoint to the city's hustle. No trip to Singapore is complete without paying homage to the iconic Merlion . This mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish is deeply rooted in Singapore's history. The lion head represents Singapore's original name, Singapura, which means "lion city" in Malay. At the same time, the fish body acknowledges the city-state's humble beginnings as a fishing village. As we stood there, witnessing the Merlion's waters cascade against the backdrop of the city, we felt a connection to the layers of history and progress Singapore embodies. As night descended, we returned to our lodgings at Marina Bay Sands. Reflecting on the day, Singapore's blend of modernity with hints of its storied past had left an indelible impression. Another day, another city, and yet more memories crafted on this unforgettable trip. Regrettably, staying at Marina Bay Sands might only be worthwhile for those keen to explore the SkyPark, as only hotel guests have access to the infinity pool. Beyond this, the room quality isn't particularly standout, and the breakfast, which can be quite pricey if not included, doesn't offer top-tier food quality. 4th December 2022 - Day 11: A Symphony of Sights, Tastes, and History in Singapore Morning found us once more on the edge of the world, or so it felt, as we plunged into Marina Bay Sands' illustrious infinity pool. The skyline stretched below, a silent witness to our elevated escapades. Midday was a culinary affair at The Fullerton Hotel . Steeped in history, this neoclassical landmark has seen Singapore evolve from a colonial outpost to a global hub. Amidst its grandeur, we treated ourselves to a festive traditional afternoon tea. Each bite seemed to resonate with flavors, reminiscent of Singapore's colonial past and its multicultural present. After our delightful repast, the Singapore River beckoned. This waterway is the lifeblood of Singapore's history. Once a bustling hub of trade and commerce, the riverbanks now throng with eateries, boutiques, and a silent narrative of Singapore's transformation. Our next stop was the National Gallery Singapore . A treasure trove of Southeast Asian art, the gallery's majestic buildings once housed the Supreme Court and City Hall. With daylight still on our side, we revisited the Merlion . Its iconic stature against the clear blue sky was a sight to behold. As evening approached, we found ourselves at the Apple Store in Marina Bay Sands - an architectural spectacle floating on water. Our last hours in Singapore were reserved for the Gardens by the Bay. A vision of green amidst urbanity, this botanical wonderland celebrates the marriage of nature and technology. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. And so, with heavy hearts, we transferred to the airport, bidding adieu to Singapore and boarding our flight to Frankfurt. 5th December 2022 - Homeward Bound Our journey on Singapore Airlines's A380 in service from Singapore to Frankfurt felt like a transition from one world to another. On reaching Frankfurt, the swift connection to Flight LH1470 soon had us on our way to Timișoara, back home.

The cascade's roar, combined with the backdrop of the expansive Rockies, provided a truly awe-inspiring sight. Just 24km down the road, Athabasca Falls awaited. Another powerful testament to nature's force, the falls carve through the rocks, painting an ever-changing tableau of water and stone. Athabasca Glacier: Stepping Back in Time With barely a moment to absorb the grandeur of the falls, we set out once again, covering 74km in just an hour to reach one of the highlights of our journey: the Athabasca Glacier. As we commenced our tour at 3:30 pm, we learned of an intriguing fact: the meltwater from the Athabasca Glacier uniquely contributes to three distinct oceans. The glacier's meltwater meanders its way into river systems that eventually feed into the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. This intricate hydrological trait underlines the glacier's broader role in the regional watershed and its climatic significance. The ice beneath our feet felt like touching history itself, considering the glacier has been forming for thousands of years. The layers of ice narrated tales of different eras, showcasing the climatic shifts and the Earth's evolving narrative. Adding another dimension to the experience was the skywalk, which floated above the vastness, providing a bird's-eye view of the icy expanse and the deep valleys beneath. The day's grand finale was our retreat to Baker Creek Mountain Resort near Banff.
